Project Engineer – Dairy, Food & Beverage | Melbourne

The Role

You'll engineer and deliver complex process projects for some of the region's best-known dairy, food and beverage manufacturers. The role is based in Melbourne, reports to our Country Manager (Australia), and works across projects end to end, both from our office and on site.

D2 Process delivers most of its work on a design, build and commission basis. You'll be involved from early concept and process design through to a plant that is running, validated and handed over, rather than a single slice of the lifecycle. It's a broad, hands-on engineering role that suits someone who wants to see their designs built and running.

What you will do

- Put safety first on your projects, on site and in the office, through hazard identification, HAZOP and safety-in-design input.

- Deliver process and mechanical engineering across the project cycle: process design, mass and energy balances, P&IDs;, equipment sizing and specification.

- Apply hygienic design principles (3-A, EHEDG, Australian Standards and client standards) to stainless process systems, including pipework, valve arrays, tanks and CIP.

- Engineer and integrate dairy and F&B; process systems such as separation, pasteurisation and UHT, evaporation, membrane filtration, blending, and CIP and utilities.

- Prepare and review technical documentation: functional specifications, datasheets, layouts, and vendor and subcontractor submittals.

- Coordinate design across process, mechanical, electrical and automation disciplines, working closely with D2 Stainless and D2 Controls.

- Support procurement through technical bid evaluation, vendor follow-up,

and inspection and expediting.

- Plan and run FAT, installation checks, commissioning and performance testing through to handover and turnover documentation.

- Support the Project Manager on cost, programme and variations by identifying scope changes early and quantifying their impact.

- Work with client engineering, operations and quality teams to meet food safety, regulatory and production requirements.

- Apply and help improve the D2 Process engineering methodology, standards and design templates.

- Build trusted relationships with client engineering teams and spot follow-on improvement opportunities.

What you will bring

- A degree in chemical, process, mechanical or food engineering.

- At least three to five years of engineering experience on projects in the dairy, food and beverage, or pharmaceutical sectors.

- Hands-on process design experience, including P&IDs;, equipment selection and hygienic stainless systems.

- Site experience through installation and commissioning, ideally on thermal, separation or CIP systems.

- A working knowledge of hygienic design and food safety requirements.

- Proficiency with engineering tools such as AutoCAD or Plant 3D, Excel-based calculations and, ideally, process simulation.

- Explicit communication with clients,

contractors and multi-disciplinary teams.

- A focus on safety, quality and delivering value to the client.

- Valid working rights in Australia and a current driver's licence.

Travel

The role involves regular travel to client sites around Australia, roughly 25 to 30% of your time, with occasional involvement in projects elsewhere in the Asia Pacific region.

What we offer

- The salary range for this role is shown above. The package will be set according to your experience and capability.

- A structured training and development program.

- Career development within a growing international engineering group, including exposure to projects across the region.

- Real technical ownership, with the chance to shape how D2 designs and delivers process plant.
