Who are we looking for?
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Smart Water Monitoring to join School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Engineering.
The ARC Industrial Transformation Research Hub in IoT for Water is recruiting one Postdoctoral Research Fellow to undertake an integrated QUT research program spanning low-cost water sensing, sampling and monitoring network design. The role translates prototypes into deployable monitoring systems. The Research Fellow will combine water-quality and catchment science with sensor hardware, electronics, telemetry, experimental validation and data analytics. A particular focus is the design and improvement of robust non-contact sensing systems and their integration with reference measurements and targeted sampling under variable field conditions.
About us
QUT is a major Australian university with a global outlook and a 'real world' focus. We are an ambitious and collaborative institution that seeks to equip our students and graduates with the skills they will need in an increasingly disrupted and challenged world.
The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering brings together engineers who deliver teaching and research excellence in the sustainable design, planning, construction and operation of infrastructure and resource management to solve societal challenges and support more liveable communities. We design and improve infrastructure to address real-world challenges such as overpopulation, natural disasters, and climate change,
and we shape the world we live in by engineering liveable and sustainable environments with safe, efficient, and reliable infrastructure.
What you need to succeed
- A completed PhD in engineering, environmental science, data science or a related field, with research relevant to water or environmental monitoring.
- Knowledge of hydrological and water-quality processes and the ability to interpret monitoring data.
- Experience developing or deploying sensor systems in laboratory or field settings, including integration, calibration and troubleshooting.
- Robust programming and quantitative skills in environmental data analysis and machine-learning, statistical or hybrid modelling.
- Capability in experimental design, reference-data collection, sensor evaluation and quality assurance.
- Experience with environmental, GIS or network models and optimisation for monitoring design or decision support.
- Strong research communication, publication and project-delivery skills, with the ability to collaborate and conduct safe field work.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and Indigenous Australian engagement.
