Mining Engineers | Short Term, Mid Term & Drill and Blast | Bowen Basin

Optimum Consulting has partnered with a client operating a large-scale metallurgical coal mine in the Bowen Basin to grow their Technical Services team in an owner operated workplace.

The operation is already producing at scale, has a long life of mine ahead and has expansion on the horizon. To support this growth, our client is looking for experienced Mining Engineers with specialist skills in Short Term Planning, Mid Term Planning or Drill and Blast.

These roles combine the stability and scale of a major operation with a lean Technical Services structure, giving engineers real ownership of their work and the chance to make a meaningful contribution to the future direction of the mine.

About the roles

Roles are available at Mining Engineer and Senior Mining Engineer level. Because of the lean structure, senior roles come with a breadth of scope and responsibility you’d usually only see at superintendent level in larger teams. Successful candidates will join a collaborative technical team and work closely with site operations to deliver safe, efficient and well-executed plans across the short, medium and longer term.

Coal experience is preferred,



however applications from hard rock engineers looking to transition into the Bowen Basin are also welcome.

Location

Our client would prefer candidates to be based in Mackay, surrounding Bowen Basin townships, or nearby coastal cities and towns. Some flexibility may be available depending on the role.

About you

- A degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline
- 3+ years of mining engineering experience in open cut operations, coal or hard rock
- Demonstrated experience in short term planning, mid term planning or drill and blast
- Strong working knowledge of software such as Deswik, SPRY, Minex, XPAC, Vulcan, Orica SHOTPlus or BlastLogic
- Queensland coal tickets (Standard 11 / G1 and Coal Board Medical) highly regarded, or the ability to obtain them
