The position
Be part of something meaningful at Samaritan House, the ACT’s only crisis accommodation service for single men aged 18–65 experiencing homelessness. With 13 beds and support available 24/7, Samaritan House provides more than just a place to stay. It offers a safe space, a fresh start and a pathway towards longer-term housing.
As a Support Worker, you’ll help make the House a welcoming place where residents feel safe, respected and supported. Reporting to the Coordinator Samaritan House, you’ll work on a rotating roster, often independently, keeping daily operations running smoothly while supporting residents with their needs, building positive connections and encouraging steps towards greater independence. It’s a hands-on, meaningful role where the little things you do each day can make a big difference in someone’s life!
To be successful in this role, you must hold a current driver’s licence and will be required to complete a National Police Check, and hold or obtain a Working with Vulnerable People Card (WWVP) and First Aid Certificate upon commencing. This is a casual position based in Hackett, ACT.
About you
You’re a people person with a big heart and a passion for helping others! You have experience supporting people experiencing homelessness, including those facing crisis, mental health challenges or addiction. You know how to listen,
build trust and connect people with the right support to help them move forward. A Certificate IV in Community Services, Community Development or a related field is highly desirable, but we’ll also consider strong relevant experience and skills.
You’re practical, approachable and ready to roll up your sleeves! You’re confident working independently, making sound decisions and juggling different tasks, from supporting residents to daily administration and hospitality duties. You communicate well, work as part of a team and can adapt when things don’t go to plan. Samaritan House operates 24/7, so weekday availability is essential, along with flexibility to work evening, overnight and weekend shifts.
