Knives & Stones is a specialist retailer of Japanese kitchen knives, sharpening stones, kitchenware and knife-care accessories. We help professional chefs, home cooks and knife enthusiasts find products suited to their needs.
We are looking for a friendly and reliable Retail Sales Assistant to join our Prahran store. If you enjoy talking to customers and have an interest in cooking, quality kitchen tools or Japanese craftsmanship, we would like to hear from you.
About the role
You will help customers choose suitable products and support the day-to-day running of the store. Your responsibilities will include:
- Welcoming customers and understanding their cooking needs, preferences and budget.
- Explaining product features and helping customers compare knives, sharpening stones and related accessories.
- Providing accurate product-care information and demonstrating safe handling in line with store procedures.
- Processing sales and payments, and assisting with enquiries, returns and exchanges under store policies.
- Receiving deliveries, checking stock, replenishing shelves and maintaining product displays.
- Assisting with stocktakes and keeping stock records accurate.
- Maintaining a clean, organised and welcoming store.
- Sharing customer feedback and stock needs with management and the buying team.
About you
We are looking for someone with:
- Previous retail sales or customer service experience.
- Clear communication skills and a helpful, attentive approach.
- An interest in Japanese kitchen knives, kitchenware or cooking, and a willingness to develop detailed product knowledge.
- Accuracy when handling payments, orders and stock.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- A responsible approach to handling and displaying sharp products.
- Availability to work the agreed roster, including weekends where required.
- Australian work rights appropriate to the position.
Experience in kitchenware retail, hospitality or a skilled kitchen would be an advantage. Existing knowledge of Japanese knives or sharpening products is welcome but is not essential.
