About the role
Monaco Solicitors is an Australian personal injury law firm. We compete for some of the toughest Google search terms in Australian law, including medical negligence, workers compensation and motor vehicle accident claims.
We're looking for an experienced SEO specialist to own organic search for our website. A big part of your week will go into guiding and supporting our content writer. Beyond that, you'll decide which SEO opportunities are worth pursuing and get hands‑on with the work, from improving existing pages and fixing technical issues to building links and tracking results. We want someone who makes improvements, not just recommendations.
What's in it for you
- $36,000–$52,000 for two days a week, or $54,000–$78,000 for three days a week, including super. Equivalent to $90,000–$130,000 full-time, with opportunities for pay rises and performance bonuses. Where you start in the band depends on your experience and what you can show us.
- Choose two or three days a week, arranged your way: Work them as full days, or spread the same hours across four or five weekdays.
- Flexible hours: Work a standard 9am–5:30pm day if you prefer, or arrange your hours around when you work best. Start early, finish late, or split your hours between morning and evening. We just need some availability during business hours for meetings.
- Work from home anywhere in Australia , or from our Sydney head office if you prefer.
- One website, not twenty clients: No agency juggling act where there's barely time to report on each client. You work on one website, so you get to see your work pay off.
- Your tools, paid for: Tell us what tools you need to get the job done and we'll pay for them, whether that's Claude or ChatGPT, Ahrefs, Semrush, Screaming Frog or rank tracking. Tools you already know, or ones you've always wanted to try.
- Paid career development: Courses and training that help you get better at what you do.
What you'll do
- Guide our content strategy: Write clear briefs for our writer, then review each draft and say what needs to change for it to rank: search intent, structure, headings and internal links.
- Research and planning: Use keyword research, competitor analysis and backlink data to find opportunities, then decide whether to create new pages or improve existing ones.
- On-page optimisation: Work through our live pages and fix whatever is holding each one back, from titles, meta descriptions and headings to internal links, E-E-A-T signals and everything in between.
- Handle technical SEO: Find and fix issues with crawling, indexing, canonicals, redirects, structured data, site architecture and page speed. Make changes yourself in WordPress and AIOSEO where possible, work with our developers when needed.
- Build authority and local presence: Analyse our backlink profile and find practical ways to earn relevant, high-quality links. Optimise our Google Business Profiles to improve our local search rankings.
- Monitor performance: Use Google Search Console, GA4 and other SEO tools to track rankings, organic traffic and how often AI answers cite us.
- On-demand reporting: Set up a dashboard in Data Studio or similar so the whole team can check results whenever they like.
- Regular updates: Keep the business owner, our Head of Marketing and our content writer in the loop, whether that’s a monthly report, a quick weekly email or a call. Tell us what’s worked, what hasn’t and what’s coming next.
What we're looking for
- Proven SEO experience:
You’ve spent several years improving rankings and growing organic traffic in competitive markets, and can show us examples of what you’ve achieved.
- Experience guiding writers: You've briefed writers and given feedback on their drafts. You can tell a strong draft from a weak one, and explain why in a way a writer can act on.
- Know your tools: You’re at home in Google Search Console and GA4, and you know which tools to use for everything else the job needs, whether that’s Screaming Frog, Ahrefs, Semrush or others.
- Technical confidence: You're confident in the WordPress backend and plugins like AIOSEO. You don't need to code, but HTML shouldn't scare you, and you're at home in Chrome DevTools and PageSpeed Insights.
- SEO is your career: You understand how search engines crawl, index and rank websites. You're confident in what you know, but curious about what you don't and eager to learn more. You're never complacent and keep up with what's changing.
- Independence: You can identify problems, prioritise opportunities and keep work moving without needing someone to tell you what to do every day. If you think something's a bad idea, you'll say so.
Experience with YMYL topics like law, health or finance, where E-E-A-T really counts, would be an advantage. Qualifications are welcome, but we care far more about what you've actually achieved in SEO than which courses you've completed.
Using AI properly
We expect you to be good at using AI, not just familiar with it. That means using it throughout your work, like running several agents at once to pull apart the pages ranking above us.
To us, GEO is just part of doing SEO properly. Track how Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode, ChatGPT and Gemini answer questions about injury claims. Where we’re missing or they get it wrong, make our page the answer they cite.
Our interview process is straightforward:
- If your application stands out, we'll arrange a relaxed phone conversation with our Head of Marketing. No video needed.
- If that goes well, we'll invite you to a video interview with the business owner on another day.
We’d love someone to start soon, but finding the right person is worth the wait. So if you need to give notice, that's absolutely fine.
