At Curriculum Associates, we believe in the potential of every child and are changing the face of education technology with award-winning learning programs like i-Ready that serve a third of the nation's K-8 students.
For more than 50 years, our commitment to making classrooms better places, serving educators, and supporting accessible learning experiences for all students has driven the continuous improvement of our innovative programs.
Our team of more than 2,500 employees is composed of lifelong learners who stand behind this mission, working tirelessly to serve the educational community with world-class programs and support every day.
One in three high schools in Australia teaches science with Stile . Someone has to design those lessons. That's this job.
Our mission is simple: prepare young citizens to think scientifically about the world around them and make evidence-based decisions for their future. To do this, we create thought-provoking, meticulously researched science content that connects real-world discoveries to students' everyday lives.
For more information, have a read of our ' why '.
With that reach in Australia and a rapid expansion in the US, we expect our use to continue to grow in the coming years. That's quite some reach, and it's a responsibility we take very seriously.
The Stile team is made up of 70 incredible teachers, scientists, artists and engineers who genuinely care about, and are working towards, improving scientific literacy amongst our young citizens.
We need your help! Stile makes the science lessons that tens of thousands of Australian students learn from every day - from the life cycle of stars to plastic in the oceans. Someone has to make all of that clear, beautiful and worth engaging with. That's you.
Most days, you'll be designing lessons. Layout, typography, diagrams,
artwork - the visual craft that help turn a writer's draft into something students want to learn. It's proper craft work, and there's plenty of it. The whole world of science is yours to visualise.
We're also looking for someone with interaction skills. Our lessons often feature interactive simulations, drag-and-drop activities, data-visualisations, models that let students play with an idea rather than reading or engaging with static content. UX and interface skills will come in handy.
It's not a product UX role, and it's not an illustration specialist role. It's a lesson designer with robust ideas about what makes engaging with content fun and how dynamic, interactive experiences can elevate the learning.
How you'll spend your time
- Designing engaging lessons : This is the bulk of the work. You'll work with the content team on the visual design of lessons, within the existing Stile design language while continuing to push the creative possibilities of how they look and feel across digital and print applications.
- Creating interactive experiences : Simulations, drag-and-drop activities that reward getting it right, models that make an abstract concept feel physical. You'll work with existing patterns as a starting point, know when a lesson deserves something new, weigh up the trade-offs (build effort, classroom context, timing and delight) and make the case for the approach you believe in. The bar is simple:
a Year 7 student can pick it up without being told how and really learns something.
- Illustrating and diagramming science : You'll create, edit and adapt scientific and educational illustrations - diagrams, labelled figures, process visuals, explanatory artwork. This role doesn't require virtuoso illustration craft (great if you have those chops), but you'll have good-to-strong Adobe Illustrator skills.
- Working shoulder to shoulder with writers, learning designers and engineers : You'll be in from the concept stage, not just at handover. You'll partner with engineering so interactives are built well and accessible for diverse student abilities. You'll explain your creative and design rationales clearly, and you'll deliver reliably against content production schedules.
- Continuing to hone your own craft : We're life-long learners at Stile, so we're always looking to improve our practice. You'll build your working knowledge of accessibility and how students using assistive technologies encounter our lessons, keep an eye on what's happening in interaction design and AI tooling, and spend real time in critique - both giving and receiving.
A bit more about you
- You've got solid graphic design fundamentals - layout, typography, hierarchy, colour - and a portfolio showing consistent, high-volume design work within an established visual language.
- You're genuinely curious about interactive work. You don't need deep interaction design experience - we'd rather see that you find this stuff interesting and lean in.
- You're happy adapting to an existing visual language and can continue to evolve with a team of creatives.
- You're comfortable working with writers, editors and engineers as a normal part of the jo
