Kalapani Nepalese Restaurant (Kaji Pty Ltd) is an established Nepalese restaurant in Sydney CBD, serving traditional Nepalese and Himalayan cuisine seven days a week. We are seeking an experienced full time Cook to join our kitchen team on an ongoing basis.

The role

Reporting to the Head Chef, you will prepare and cook our full Nepalese and Himalayan menu — momo, sekuwa, thukpa, dal bhat, and charcoal-grilled and tandoori dishes — to a consistent standard through busy service.

What you will do

● Prepare and cook dishes to our recipes, portion sizes and presentation standards

● Operate the tandoor, charcoal grill and wok safely and competently

● Prepare spice blends, marinades, sauces and accompaniments from scratch

● Complete mise en place and run your section through service

● Monitor stock, rotate perishables and report ordering requirements

● Maintain food safety, hygiene and temperature records

● Guide and train kitchen hands and junior kitchen staff

What you need





● At least 1 years of full time experience as a Cook in a commercial kitchen

● Experience preparing Nepalese, Himalayan, Indian or comparable South Asian cuisine

● Competence with tandoor and charcoal grill cookery

● Sound food safety and hygiene knowledge

● Availability for a rotating roster including evenings, weekends and public holidays

● Sound spoken and written English

● The right to work in Australia on a full time, ongoing basis

Desirable: Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or a Diploma of Hospitality Management; a current NSW Food Safety Supervisor certificate.

What we offer

● $75,000 – $85,000 per annum plus superannuation, depending on qualifications and experience

● Full time, ongoing employment — 38 ordinary hours per week

● Staff meals, a supportive kitchen team, and training in traditional Nepalese cookery

Pay: $75,000.00 – $85,000.00 per year
