Every gym loses members it never saw leaving. Recovr is the AI that catches them first and helps the team act. We are building it the way we think software is going to be built from here: as a software factory, where AI agents write much of the code and engineers design the system that specifies, checks and ships it. You would lead that.
About Recovr
Recovr is an AI-powered operating system and agent for gyms and fitness studios. It brings member data, conversations and everyday tasks together, works out who needs attention and why, and helps staff take the right next step. Retention is the outcome. A better member experience is how we get there.
We are a funded, fast growing startup with offices in Sydney and Adelaide, working with boutique studios, big box gyms and franchise networks across Australia, Asia and the US. We sign new sites every month and demand is ahead of what we can build.
How we build
AI is not a side project here. It is the product, and it is how we work. Our engineers run coding agents every day, and the job is shifting from writing every line to designing the factory: the specs, guardrails, tests, reviews and feedback loops that let agents ship production code safely and quick. Nobody has the final answer on what that looks like yet. We want someone who wants to help define it, and who wants to ship the agent our customers use as much as the agents we build with.
The role
You will be our Technical Lead, working alongside the CTO. It is hands-on: you will write code and direct agents every week, set the engineering standard, review the work, mentor developers and help decide what we build next. You will own how our software factory runs: how work is specified, how agents are pointed at it, how output is verified, and how quality holds as we speed up.
You will also have a real say in who we hire.
This is an in-office role, five days a week, at our Sydney CBD office. Engineers also work from our Adelaide office and elsewhere, so you will lead in the room and over a call.
What we need
- Strong production experience with TypeScript and Node
- Real depth with SQL and Postgres
- You use AI coding agents daily (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or similar) and have earned opinions on where they shine, where they fail, and how to build a software factory around them. This one is not negotiable.
- You have led or mentored developers, with or without the title
- You have owned systems in production, not just shipped features
- You are comfortable with the pace and ambiguity of a growing startup
We build in TypeScript across the stack, React on the front end, Postgres behind it. You do not need to have used every tool we run.
Nice to have
- You have built agents or LLM features into a product, not just used AI to write code
- Multi-tenant SaaS experience
- Integration heavy work, where other people's APIs break and you own the fallout
- Experience at an early stage company
- An interest in fitness, or in the industry we sell to
What's in it for you
Equity, and a real say in the product and in how a modern engineering team should work. There is no layer between you and the decisions. The honest flipside: broad ownership and nobody to hide behind.
Applying
Skip the cover letter. Tell us about one system you owned end to end and what you would do differently, then walk us through how AI fits into your work right now: your setup, where you trust it, and where you do not. Specifics beat polish. You will need existing working rights in Australia.
Pay: $160,000.00 – $180,000.00 per year
