EHS assess is a specialist consulting company providing independent expert advice primarily to the insurance industry, as well as government and commercial clients.

We're looking for an intelligent, highly adaptable and exceptionally organised person to join our team.

This is a genuinely unusual role. You'll investigate complex problems, visit interesting locations, meet all sorts of people and develop expertise in highly specialised field/s.

The role

Approximately 60% field work and travel / 40% reporting and analysis, with genuine hybrid autonomous flexibility.

You'll be conducting investigations with specialised equipment, assessing risks, gathering information, solving problems, dealing with clients and preparing technical reports.

Travel is a core function of the role. You'll routinely travel throughout Melbourne, regional Victoria, across Australia and potentially beyond. If you cannot travel, this isn't the job for you.

The upside? You'll see parts of the country most people never get to see and meet people from all walks of life.

We're looking for someone who has:

- A STEM degree or equivalent background (including incomplete degrees)
- Strong interest in biology/microbiology
- Exceptional autonomy and initiative
- Outstanding time management and organisational skills
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to deal calmly with challenging or volatile people/situations
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking ability
- A positive, adaptable can-do attitude
- The ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing demands
- A current driver's licence
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook

Highly desirable:

- Biology, microbiology, chemistry or engineering background




- Knowledge of/experience in building and construction
- Knowledge of/experience in risk assessment and risk management
- Experience in technical report writing

This is a highly specialised and relatively new field. Much of your technical training will be provided on the job.

What we need is someone with a robust desire to learn, the ability to question assumptions and the humility to unlearn things they thought they knew when better evidence comes along.

You need to be comfortable with uncertainty and able to walk into an unfamiliar problem and think:

"Right. Let's work this out."

The lifestyle

Our work can be extremely busy one week and considerably quieter the next, so exceptional organisation and time management are critical.

Our normal working window is approximately 7am–5pm (weekdays), with flexibility around when you complete your 8-hour day. Once established, the role will rarely exceed 40 hours per week.

The reporting component can be completed from our office, home or, within reason, wherever you choose.

You'll have considerable autonomy and the opportunity to make the role your own with all the support you need.
