Kuranga Native Nursery Pty Ltd operates two specialist native plant nurseries and has been trading for more than 40 years. We have an outlet in Mount Evelyn and Warrandyte. Our fully licensed café's serve breakfast, lunch, and morning and afternoon tea seven days a week. The café runs seasonal menus and daily specials built on locally sourced produce and Australian bush food ingredients such as lemon myrtle, wattleseed and mountain pepper. We are looking for an experienced Cook to join our kitchen team on a full-time basis. The kitchen operates during the day only.

Duties and responsibilities

- Prepare and cook breakfast and lunch dishes from the seasonal menu and daily specials to set recipes and presentation standards
- Check the quality and freshness of produce and ingredients on delivery and before use
- Set up the section and complete mise en place before service
- Regulate the temperature of ovens, grills, fryers and other cooking equipment
- Season food during cooking, portion and plate dishes, and finish with sauces and garnishes
- Prepare meals for dietary and allergen requirements, including gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan




- Store food in temperature-controlled facilities and rotate stock to reduce waste
- Prepare and cook with native bush food ingredients used across the menu
- Assist the Chef with seasonal menu development, stock ordering and food cost control
- Keep the kitchen clean and follow food safety procedures and HACCP requirements
- Help train junior kitchen staff and kitchen hands

Skills and experience required

- Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or an equivalent qualification
- At least one year of full-time relevant experience.
- Sound knowledge of food safety and protected food handling practices
- Ability to work a rotating roster across seven days, including weekends and public holidays
- Good communication and teamwork skills in a busy service environment
