About the Role

We’re looking for an experienced, reliable Cook or Chef or Fish & Chips All-Rounders to join our busy, family-run fish and chips shop in Cheltenham.

You must be confident operating commercial deep fryers and managing multiple orders in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen. Experience across both fryer and grill stations is highly regarded.

Availability

Ideally, you’ll be available for 2–3 days per week across either:

● Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; or

● Tuesday, Friday and Saturday.

Friday availability is essential. Applicants available for Fridays only are also welcome to apply.

Additional hours may become available in the future for the right person.

Key Responsibilities

● Complete kitchen opening procedures, including equipment setup, food preparation and getting the kitchen ready for service.

● Operate commercial deep fryers, coordinating cooking times and multiple orders during busy periods.

● Maintain consistent food quality, portion sizes and presentation.

● Manage daily preparation and keep your station organised and well stocked.

● Follow food safety procedures, rotate stock and minimise waste.

● Maintain kitchen cleanliness and communicate clearly with the team.

● Assist across other kitchen stations as needed and within your skills.

Essential Requirements

● A minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Cook or Chef in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen,

OR 3 years’ experience working in a fish and chips shop as an All-Rounder.





● Confident operating commercial deep fryers and managing multiple orders under pressure.

● Experience across both fryer and grill stations is highly regarded.

● Confidence operating commercial deep fryers.

● Ability to work well under pressure while maintaining speed, accuracy and food quality.

● Fluent English and clear communication skills.

● Strong food preparation, organisation and time management skills.

● Sound knowledge of food safety and kitchen hygiene.

● Ability to manage kitchen opening and preparation independently once trained.

● A reliable, hardworking and positive approach to teamwork.

● Availability to work Fridays.

Highly Regarded

● Experience across both fryer and grill stations.

● Previous fish and chips or seafood kitchen experience.

● Previous catering experience, as we plan to expand into catering.

● A relevant commercial cookery qualification.

What We Offer

● $36–$38 per hour on weekdays and $42–$45 per hour on Saturdays, depending on experience, duties and applicable Quick Food Award classification.

● Rates include casual loading, with superannuation paid separately.

● All rates meet or exceed the applicable award minimum. Other penalties and overtime are paid where applicable.

● Pay reviews as your skills and responsibilities develop.

● Training in our menu, equipment and kitchen procedures.
