APS6 Design Strategist

DFP Recruitment is seeking an experienced APS6 Strategy Officer to join a Federal Government client in Surry Hills, NSW.

This chance will suit a professional with a background in policy, strategy or project delivery who enjoys researching complex issues, developing clear advice and supporting projects that improve outcomes for people with disability.

Reporting to an EL1, you will work with a range of stakeholders to contribute to strategic planning, policy development and project delivery. The role carries team leadership responsibilities and requires sound judgement, initiative and the ability to manage competing priorities.

About the role

Your responsibilities will include:

- Developing and managing project plans, schedules and regular progress reporting.
- Undertaking independent research and analysis to inform policy, strategy and project activities.
- Preparing business cases, executive briefs, reports, plans and corporate documentation.
- Interpreting, drafting and reviewing policy and procedural material.
- Providing specialist advice to staff and stakeholders on complex matters.
- Monitoring project budgets and expenditure, and assisting with procurement and contract management.
- Identifying and managing project risks, issues and benefits.
- Supporting project quality to ensure deliverables meet stakeholder needs.
- Building relationships with internal and external stakeholders and contributing to committees and forums.

About you

You will bring:

- Relevant experience in policy, strategy, project delivery or a related field.
- Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to turn complex information into clear recommendations.




- Excellent written communication skills, including experience preparing briefing papers, reports, policy documents or business cases.
- The ability to interpret policies and procedures and apply sound judgement to complex issues.
- Strong planning and organisational skills, including experience managing deadlines, risks and project reporting.
- Confidence engaging stakeholders and providing well-supported advice.
- The ability to work independently and support team priorities and delivery.

A tertiary qualification and at least three years’ experience in policy, strategy or a related field are desirable. An understanding of disability, health, allied health or related sectors would also be beneficial.
