Net Zero Economy Authority
Queensland
About the Division The Regional Transformation Division supports the Authority's mission to ensure workers, industries and communities benefit from Australia's transition to a net zero economy. Through a place-based approach, the Authority focuses on four of Australia's key transition regions, the Hunter, Latrobe-Gippsland, Collie and Central Queensland, to foster partnerships and mobilise actions that support sustainable economic and workforce outcomes.
As part of this, the Division also works to ensure First Nations peoples and communities are active participants in, and beneficiaries of, the opportunities created by the transition.
There are four regions’ teams - Hunter, Latrobe-Gippsland, Collie and Central Queensland. Each team leads strategy and advice and coordinates engagement in one priority region. This includes identifying transition challenges and opportunities and working with government, non-government and community stakeholders to facilitate access to opportunities and delivery of associated supports.
About the Roles
We are looking to fill a number of Assistant Director roles across the Division, who will lead workstreams within Regional Economic Development, Strategy and Coordination, and Engagement. These roles provide a unique opportunity to contribute to a key Australian Government priority by supporting economic transformation and growth, with a particular focus on opportunities arising from Australia’s energy transition and evolving energy policy landscape.
Assistant Directors are expected to work under limited direction with accountability for outcomes that are relevant to the specific role and may manage a small team of staff.
Assistant Directors are encouraged to take a leadership role within the broader Branch and Division and across the Authority. This may be as part of a surge team, by supporting and motivating others, engaging with the Executive, representing the Authority and the Commonwealth externally, or working independently with key stakeholders, including State and Local Governments, unions and industry.
We are seeking motivated and collaborative professionals who are passionate about supporting regional communities through Australia's net zero transformation. Candidate’s will bring strong strategy, delivery, and stakeholder engagement skills, sound judgement and the ability to navigate complex issues in a dynamic operating workplace. We welcome applications from candidates who can demonstrate relevant skills, experience and a commitment to supporting regional transition outcomes.
Our ideal candidates understand Commonwealth policy particularly how it relates to supporting industry and jobs growth in NZEA priority regions. They are able to quickly understand complex problems and are able to provide high level advice to senior leadership regarding emerging policy issues or opportunities.
Desirable Location
We are seeking to recruit people who currently reside in our priority regions,
noting that in the Latrobe, Collie and Central Queensland these would be on a 100% remote working arrangement (work from home). We currently have offices in Canberra and Sydney, and in the Hunter, there is a small Newcastle presence. However, consideration based on location will determine whether the role will be remote or whether there is an expectation to work some days in the office.
