Think Opportunity, Think Baker McKenzie!

We have an exciting prospect for a mid-level Associate to join our dynamic Tax practice in Sydney.

As an Associate, you will work closely with partners and senior lawyers on complex, high-value matters for leading multinational and ASX-listed clients. You will take genuine ownership of workstreams, build direct client relationships, and help shape advice on some of the most significant tax issues facing business today.

You will work alongside our Partners, Simone Bridges, Miles Hurst, Dixon Hearder and Victoria Lanyon, with real partner exposure and mentoring from day one.

Our practice

Our Australian Tax team advises some of the world's most sophisticated multinational clients on their most complex and commercially significant tax issues. We are growing the team and looking for an Associate to join a high-performing, collegiate practice that is consistently recognised as a leader in the Australian market.

We work at the cutting edge of Australian and cross-border tax, covering corporate income tax, international tax and transfer pricing, tax controversy, and GST/indirect tax, for clients across technology, financial services, energy, infrastructure, consumer and life sciences. Our people regularly advise on landmark transactions, ATO audits and disputes, and policy developments shaping how multinationals operate in Australia.

Why join us

- Award-winning practice: We were recently recognised as Australian Tax Disputes Firm of the Year and Australian Indirect Tax Firm of the Year at the ITR Asia-Pacific Tax Awards 2025, following Australian Tax Law Firm of the Year in 2024. The market identifies us as a leader because of the calibre of our work.
- High-performing culture:

You will work alongside some of the best tax lawyers in the market, who are as invested in your development as they are in the quality of our advice.
- Global reach, real opportunities: Our global network creates genuine opportunities for high performers to experience international travel, and the chance to work on cross-border matters with colleagues across our offices worldwide.
- Innovating with AI: We are actively leaning into AI and new technology to work smarter, sharpen our advice, and free up time for the work that matters most. We want people who are excited to help shape how our practice uses it.
- Investment in you: We invest in your growth, wellbeing and long-term career, including financial support and paid study leave to complete your LLM.

About you

We are looking for talented tax lawyers with approximately 2-4 years' PQE gained at a top-tier or leading law firm or the Big 4. You will have strong technical foundations, commercial curiosity and a genuine interest in solving complex problems for clients.

To succeed in this role, you will bring:

- experience advising on Australian taxation matters, or exposure to corporate, commercial, regulatory or related legal practice areas;
- a willingness in developing expertise across a broad range of tax disciplines, including domestic tax, international tax, transfer pricing, GST, state taxes and tax controversy;
- strong analytical, research and drafting skills, with the ability to communicate complex issues clearly and practically;
- a proactive approach to learning and professional development;
- excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities;
- a collaborative and team-oriented approach; and
- a desire to build strong client relationships and contribute to business development initiatives.
