About Bright Circle
Bright Circle provides end-to-end bid consulting services for major construction bids in road and rail, water and power, Defence, engineering and facilities management bids. Our consultants are pursuit strategists and bid coaches, submissions managers, bid writers and AI advisors. We work with Tier One contractors on projects worth hundreds of millions to billions of dollars, some of the biggest and most exciting infrastructure projects in Australia.
We're a team of bid professionals living our best lives: we work as consultants on a project-to-project basis to give us the time off that we need to focus on other projects, family or travel. It's a fundamental part of Bright Circle's DNA: giving our people the lifestyle they want is what creates happy, focussed and motivated writers and submissions managers. Our belief is that happy people do great work, and that's why we invest in it.
Our people work exclusively with us. In return, we invest heavily in you: ongoing training and coaching, a great team culture, career development to challenge you, and a steady pipeline of work so you're never chasing the next gig.
As a Bright Circle consultant, you benefit from our corporate structures, our existing onboarding with Tier One contractors, and coverage under our Professional Indemnity and Public Liability insurance, so you can step straight into our clients' bid teams.
Bidding is changing, and we're changing with it The bidding landscape is shifting, and we're not just keeping up: we're leading the change. We run our own training course that develops our bid writers and submissions managers into strategy advisors and consultants. AI adoption is part of the service we provide to clients, and we want our writers and submissions managers to be part of it.
We look for opportunities to pair our writers with our Submissions Managers and coaches, so that you learn from each other and broaden your skills.
Bid coaching, pursuits and submissions management are now a core part of our offering. That means a clear progression pathway: whether you're a writer or a submissions manager, if you want to learn more about strategy, our development pathways can take you from writing or managing submissions to becoming a strategy and pursuit expert within Bright Circle.
Bid Writer, Submissions Manager, or both?
We're looking for experienced bid professionals with several years in bidding roles in the construction or engineering industries. You might be a Bid Writer, a Submissions Manager, or someone who can move comfortably between the two.
This is consulting work,
engaged project to project. It is not a full-time permanent role, and it's for people who want it that way: you choose consulting because you value the variety, the flexibility and the time between projects for other important things in your life.
Currently in a full-time role and ready for a change? Many of our consultants started exactly there. If you've been thinking about leaving permanent employment for project-to-project work, we'll make the move easier, with a steady pipeline, established client relationships and a team behind you from your first engagement.
Currently consulting, but want the rewards of joining a steady team with a great culture and a pipeline of work? We'd love to hear from you.
The Opportunity
As a Bright Circle consultant, you'll be embedded within Tier One contractors' bid teams working on major, city-shaping infrastructure projects. We'll match you to engagements that fit your strengths and to teams whose culture suits you.
The work is flexible. Some engagements are entirely remote; others are hybrid with 2–3 days per week in the office with the client's bid team. Our clients are based in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, so we have a preference for people located in those cities.
What You'll Do
- Join our clients' teams for the duration of the engagement, either fully remote or hybrid (2–3 days per week in the client's office)
- Quickly get across the bid and work out what's needed, whether that's writing, running the submission, strategy input, a workshop, a review, or deadline-day support
- As a writer: write, edit and refine technically accurate, client-focused and strategically aligned responses, shaping strong win themes and working with subject matter experts
- As a submissions manager: plan and manage the submission, including schedules, deliverables, reviews, compliance and production
- Collaborate with technical and commercial stakeholders to keep the bid on track and on message
- Help clients and teams adopt new ways of working, including AI tools
- Adapt to each client's systems, team and way of working
About You
You have several years' experience writing or managing bids, tenders or submissions in construction or engineering, and you actively want to work as a consultant, moving from project to project instead of holding a full time role. You're organised, detail-driven and self-managing.
You bring
- Several years' experience in bid writing,
submissions management, or both, within construction or engineering
- Defence bid experience (estate works, infrastructure, or materiel and technology) is highly regarded. Australian citizenship may be required for some Defence engagements
- For writers: strong writing, editing and proofreading skills, a sharp sense for win themes, and the ability to ask questions that get you the answers you need
- For submissions managers: strong planning, communication and stakeholder management skills
- The judgement to read a bid team's needs and adapt, from strategy to hands-on delivery
- An appetite to grow into strategy, pursuit and advisory work
- Enthusiasm for using AI, within each client's AI governance requirements
- A clear preference for project-to-project consulting over full-time employment
- Advanced Microsoft Word skills; bid tools experience and formatting skills are highly desirable
