About Us The Perth Bears are making history as the newest NRL club, joining the competition in 2027. We’re more than a sporting team, we’re building a movement that will unite fans, inspire young athletes, and create opportunities across Western Australia. By joining the Bears, you’ll play an important role in bringing our vision to life and creating something truly special for our members, partners, and community.

The Prospect

We are seeking an innovative and hands-on Data & Analytics Manager to establish and lead the Perth Bears’ data function from the ground up.

Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, this pivotal role will design and deliver the club’s data strategy, platforms, analytics capabilities and AI initiatives. You will create the foundations that enable smarter decision-making across every area of the organisation, including membership, ticketing, commercial partnerships, marketing, football operations and high performance.

This is a unique opportunity to build a modern data environment from day one, influence strategic decisions at the highest level, and help shape how one of Australia’s newest sporting clubs uses data and AI to create a competitive advantage.

What You’ll Do

- Establish and lead the club’s data and analytics function.
- Design, build and manage the Perth Bears’ cloud based data platform on Azure and related technologies.
- Develop and implement the club’s data roadmap, aligned to strategic priorities and season readiness.
- Create trusted data pipelines that integrate information from membership, ticketing, CRM, e-commerce, football and operational systems.
- Partner with football and high performance teams to consolidate and leverage player, recruitment and performance data.
- Deliver dashboards, reporting and self-service analytics tools that drive decision-making across the club.
- Lead the club’s AI strategy in partnership with the Chief Technology Officer and deploy practical AI solutions that improve efficiency and effectiveness.
- Implement strong data governance, privacy, security and quality frameworks.
- Manage technology vendors, budgets and external partners.

- Foster a culture where data is trusted, understood and used confidently across the organisation.
- Recruit, mentor and develop the club’s future data and analytics team

What We’re Looking For

- Demonstrated experience in data engineering, analytics engineering or a similar technical leadership role.
- Hands-on experience building and managing cloud-based data platforms, preferably within Azure, Microsoft Fabric or Databricks environments.
- Advanced SQL skills and proficiency in Python and/or R.
- Experience with modern data engineering and analytics practices, including data modelling, Git and automation.
- Proven experience delivering AI, machine learning or generative AI solutions.
- Strong understanding of data governance, privacy and security principles.
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts for diverse audiences.
- A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with the ability to balance strategy and execution
- Experience building AI applications and automations (desired).
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in data science, computer science, engineering, statistics or a related discipline (desired)

Why Join Us? This is more than a job. It's a rare opportunity to help shape the future of the Perth Bears and build the foundations of a new NRL club. As part of a start-up environment, your ideas, expertise, and leadership will directly influence the development of our players, coaches, and performance pathways. You'll have the chance to build a best-in-class development system from the ground up and work within an ambitious, collaborative, and high performing culture. Most importantly, you'll leave a legacy on rugby league in Western Australia and help shape the next generation of Perth Bears talent.

Working in a Start-Up Setting The Perth Bears are a start-up organisation in a critical foundation phase. Like other roles recruited to date, this position is intentionally hands-on and will initially operate with lean support structures.

The role will be fully accountable for establishing, delivering, and operating the function, while the club grows. This is not a role with layers of administration or inherited systems. You will be required to design processes, integrate technology platforms, build relationships, solve problems in real time, and deliver outcomes concurrently.

Success in this role requires comfort with ambiguity, strong personal accountability, and the ability to move seamlessly between strategic planning and day-to-day execution.

How to Apply

If you’re ready to join one of the most exciting new ventures in Australian sport, we want to hear from you. Apply now with your CV and a cover letter outlining your experience and why you’re the right person to build the Bears’ future.

Applications will be reviewed as they are received, and we encourage early applications. Interviews may commence at any stage of the recruitment process, and recruitment may conclude once a suitable candidate has been identified

.

Please note that you will be sent a mandatory pre-screening questionnaire via email after submitting your application.
