About the role

Aloft Restaurant & Restaurant Maria in Hobart, Tasmania are seeking an enthusiastic Demi Chef to join our dynamic team. This is a full-time position based in our vibrant restaurant located in the heart of the Hobart waterfront. As a Junior Chef, you will play a crucial role in assisting our Senior Chefs during culinary operations, ensuring the highest standards of food quality and presentation. Applicants will need to be available to start by December 2026.

What you'll be doing

- Assisting Senior Chefs in daily preparation of mise en place
- Help in the running of cold and hot sections during dinner service and functions
- Maintain strict standards of food safety and hygiene in the kitchen
- Ensure the cleanliness and organisation of kitchen, dry store and refrigeration areas
- Communicate and work with our front of house group in order to deliver a high-level customer experience
- Communicate with customers seated at our kitchen bar about our food and the greater Tasmanian experience

What we're looking for

- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Commis Chef or be finishing a 4th-year Apprenticeship in a similar high-volume restaurant environment
- Proven track record of being hard working and adaptable
- Knowledge of food preparation and presentation with an enthusiasm to learn more from our Senior Chefs




- An understanding of food safety regulations and best practices
- Passion for using fresh, locally sourced ingredients to create innovative and delicious dishes
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with the broader restaurant team and customers
