Multiple Trade Positions Available | Heavy Diesel Mechanics / Fitters, LV Mechanics, Boilermakers - Port of Melbourne

Rowlands Asset Services is expanding its Victorian maintenance operations and is seeking experienced tradespeople to form part of a proposed long-term embedded maintenance team supporting major port and logistics operations in Melbourne. We are currently recruiting for 5 positions:

- 1 x Working Leading Hand - Diesel Mechanic / Diesel Fitter (Fulltime)
- 1 x Heavy Diesel Mechanic / Diesel Fitter / Mechanical Fitter (Fulltime)
- 1 x Light Vehicle Mechanic / Automotive Technician (Fulltime)
- 1 x Auto Electrician (Casual)
- 1 x Boilermaker / Fabricator (Fulltime)
- 1 x Boilermaker / Welder (Casual)

These roles will form the core of a small, hands-on maintenance team responsible for servicing, repairs, fault finding, preventative maintenance and breakdown response across a mixed fleet of forklifts, material-handling equipment, heavy mobile equipment and light vehicles.

Working Leading Hand - Diesel Mechanic / Diesel Fitter

We are looking for an experienced tradesperson capable of taking ownership of day-to-day maintenance activities while still remaining hands-on with the tools. Previous experience as a Leading Hand, Supervisor, Senior Mechanic, Heavy Diesel Mechanic, Plant Mechanic or Mechanical Fitter will be highly regarded.

The successful candidate will assist with:

- Coordinating day-to-day maintenance priorities
- Leading a small maintenance crew
- Planned and preventative maintenance
- Breakdown response
- Mechanical fault finding and diagnostics
- Forklift and material-handling equipment maintenance
- Liaising professionally with the client
- Maintenance records and reporting
- Hands-on repair and servicing work

Experience with forklifts, reach stackers, Kalmar, Hyster, Toyota or similar equipment would be highly regarded.

Heavy Diesel Mechanic / Fitter

We are seeking a strong Heavy Diesel Mechanic capable of maintaining and repairing forklifts, material-handling equipment and other mobile plant.

The role will include

- Diesel engine diagnostics and repairs
- Hydraulic fault finding
- Driveline, brake and steering repairs
- Forklift and reach stacker maintenance
- Preventative servicing
- Breakdown repairs
- Defect rectification
- General mechanical maintenance

We are particularly interested in candidates with hands-on experience servicing, diagnosing and repairing forklifts, reach stackers and similar heavy material-handling equipment. You must be prepared to work across the broader maintenance operation and support other mechanical trades where required.

Light Vehicle Mechanic / Automotive Technician

We are also seeking an experienced Light Vehicle Mechanic to take ownership of servicing and maintaining the site's light vehicle fleet while supporting the wider mechanical team.

The role will include

- Scheduled vehicle servicing
- Mechanical repairs
- Brake, steering and suspension work




- Electronic diagnostics
- Fault finding
- Preventative maintenance
- Fleet inspections
- Supporting forklift and equipment maintenance where capable

Toyota experience is highly regarded, particularly candidates with strong fleet, dealership or commercial workshop backgrounds. We're looking for someone interested in expanding beyond a conventional automotive workshop environment and developing further experience within industrial and material-handling maintenance.

Auto Electrician – Heavy Equipment & Forklift Support

We are also seeking an experienced Auto Electrician to support our mechanical maintenance team across forklifts, heavy mobile plant, terminal equipment and light vehicles.

The role will include

- Electrical fault finding and diagnostics
- Forklift and heavy mobile plant electrical repairs
- Starting and charging systems
- Batteries, alternators and starter motors
- Wiring, harness and connection repairs
- Sensors, switches, relays and solenoids
- CANBUS and control-system diagnostics
- Lighting, alarms and safety systems
- Breakdown and field repair support
- Supporting Heavy Diesel Mechanics with complex electrical faults
- Light vehicle electrical work where required
- Preventative inspections and defect rectification

We are particularly interested in Auto Electricians with experience across forklifts, reach stackers, mobile plant, mining equipment, transport or heavy industrial equipment. Strong diagnostic ability is essential, with experience on Kalmar, Konecranes, Hyster, Terberg, Toyota Material Handling or similar equipment highly regarded.

2 x Boilermaker / Fabricators – Heavy Industrial Field Maintenance

We are seeking experienced Boilermakers / First Class Welders who can work across multiple industrial sites, carry out fabrication and repairs in the field, and support workshop and site-based welding requirements across our Melbourne operations. This is not a production-line fabrication role. We are looking for tradespeople who are comfortable mobilising from site to site, measuring and fabricating on the fly, repairing heavy equipment in operational environments and working independently when required.

The role will include

- Site-to-site fabrication and welding support
- Heavy industrial repair and modification work
- On-site fabrication from measurements, sketches and existing components
- Structural repairs to mobile plant, port equipment and industrial assets
- Fabrication of brackets, frames, guards, supports and replacement components
- Crack repairs and defect rectification
- Gouging, grinding,



cutting and preparation
- MIG, FCAW and stick welding
- Vertical-up and overhead welding
- Supporting mechanical crews during breakdowns and larger repair scopes
- Workshop fabrication when required
- Planned maintenance, shutdown and project support
- Working in live port, logistics and heavy industrial environments

We are specifically looking for candidates with a heavy industrial background. Experience in ports, mining, heavy mobile plant, transport, structural repair, earthmoving or industrial maintenance will be highly regarded. A strong fabrication background is essential, with First Class Welding capability highly regarded. Candidates who can confidently fabricate from the job in front of them — rather than relying solely on workshop drawings — will be particularly well suited to this role.

Experience with vertical-up, overhead, coded welding or 6G will also be highly regarded.
