- assist participants to attend appointments and access education, employment, recreation and community activities;
- promote participant choice, independence, inclusion and dignity of risk;
- monitor participant wellbeing and report changes, incidents, hazards and risks;
- follow infection prevention and control, manual-handling and workplace-safety requirements;

- severe dysphagia and mealtime management;
- urinary catheter management;
- complex bowel care;
- complex wound management; and
- other high-intensity supports relevant to Maze Care’s participants and service scope.

Previous experience or certificates may support your application but do not, by themselves, authorise you to provide high-intensity support to a particular participant.

About you

We are looking for someone who:

- provides respectful and participant-centred support;
- understands consent, privacy, choice, control and dignity of risk;
- communicates according to each participant’s needs and preferences;

- knows when to stop an unsafe task and seek assistance;
- reports incidents and concerns promptly;
- maintains accurate, objective and timely records;
- works constructively with colleagues, management and health practitioners;
- responds positively to feedback and supervision;
- is reliable, accountable and honest about their availability; and
- works within the limits of their training, competency and authority.

- a current Australian driver’s licence;
- access to a reliable and roadworthy vehicle, where required;
- availability that meets the genuine requirements of the roster; and
- willingness and ability to complete required training, practical competency assessments and refresher training.

Appointment will also be subject to the candidate being able to perform the inherent requirements of the position, with reasonable adjustments where applicable.

Desirable experience and qualifications

It would be beneficial if you have:

- experience supporting people with complex disability or health-related needs;
- experience with dysphagia, urinary catheter or complex wound support;

- participant-specific manual-handling and transfer experience;
- experience following health-practitioner instructions;
- experience working as part of a multidisciplinary support team; or
- a relevant qualification in disability, individual support, community services or a health-related field.

Previous high-intensity experience is desirable but will not replace Maze Care’s participant-specific training, competency and authorisation requirements. What Maze Care offers

- participant-centred work with a values-based organisation;
- induction and participant-specific orientation;
- access to required training and competency assessment;
- ongoing supervision and career development;
- varied casual shifts based on participant needs and worker availability; and
- up to three days of additional paid leave each year, subject to Maze Care’s eligibility requirements and applicable leave policy.

- a short cover letter outlining your relevant disability-support experience;
