Role: Senior Automation Test Engineer (HIL Testing)
Location: Perth, Western Australia
Eligibility: Australian PRs and Citizens only
About the Role:
You will lead the verification of industry-leading autonomous mining solutions, ensuring complex distributed systems (including web platforms and field-based hardware) meet stringent technical specifications. Working closely with product owners, software developers, and systems engineers, you will bridge the gap between virtual simulation, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) environments, and real-world deployment.
Fleet Management Systems (FMS)
Autonomous Vehicle Tracking
Precision Haulage Operations & Mission Control Systems
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
1. Framework Development & Test Automation
End-to-End Automation Frameworks: Architect, build, and maintain scalable test automation frameworks from scratch with minimal supervision.
API & Web Application Testing: Create robust automated tests for web applications and underlying REST APIs/microservices platforms.
Integration with CI/CD: Seamlessly integrate automated testing pipelines into delivery channels utilizing GitLab CI, Docker, and associated DevOps utilities.
1. System Verification & Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL)
Multi-Domain Testing: Plan, design, and execute integration, system, regression, and performance tests.
HIL Testing: Build physical and virtual test jigs to facilitate Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing, interfacing software test cycles directly with autonomous mining hardware components.
Complex System Verification: Validate highly distributed microservices running in Dockerized environments.
3. Defect Diagnosis, Metrics & Reporting
Analytical Troubleshooting: Diagnose, document, and track complex defects in real-time processing and distributed messaging systems.
Quality Metrics Tracking: Measure and contribute to tracking key quality metrics (e.g., system uptime, network reliability,
fault tolerance, and data synchronization issues).
Technical Reporting: Author detailed test cases, log defect reports in Jira, and prepare concise verification summaries for the Verification Coordinator.
Required Technical Skill Set (Must-Haves)
Programming & Scripting Languages: Expert-level scripting in Python and strong analytical understanding of C / C++.
Automation Frameworks: Advanced hands-on proficiency with Robot Framework (using Python for microservices & web applications) and Selenium.
Core Systems & Architecture: Working knowledge of Docker, microservice validation, and Linux environments.
Robotics & Field Communication Protocols: Familiarity or experience with ROS / ROS2, CAN Bus, and DDS middleware protocols.
Version Control & Tooling: Proficient with Git/GitLab, Jira, and Confluence for task management, documentation, and source code management.
Required Experience & Competencies
Qualified Background
At least 8+ years of dedicated experience as an Automation Test Analyst / Engineer.
Minimum of 12+ years of total experience in technology verification and validation.
Proven record of building automated framework solutions from scratch under minimal guidance.
Solid experience with the Software Testing Life Cycle (STLC) alongside performance, reliability, scalability, and load testing tools.
Qualifications & Preferred Experience
Education: Bachelor's degree (B.E./B.Tech) in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, Robotics, or a closely related technical field.
Domain Expertise (Good-to-Have): Experience with Autonomous Haulage Systems (AHS) or safetycritical engineering domains within the Mining/Resource sector.
Problem Resolution: Excellent logical reasoning skills to pinpoint issues inside real-time distributed networks and drive them to resolution.
Commitment to Quality: Ability to establish and advocate for strict Definition of Done (DoD) standards across the delivery pipeline.
