Know the approvals. Own the compliance. Lead the response.
Pembroke Olive Downs produces high-quality steelmaking coal for international markets in Queensland's Bowen Basin. How we operate matters as much as what we produce. This role sets that standard, making sure every activity on site, ours and our contractors', meets the conditions of our Environmental Authority (EA), our Progressive Rehabilitation and Closure Plan (PRCP), Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Permits and our own company standards.
This role combines regulatory compliance with hands-on environmental management in the field. You will interpret legislation and approvals, lead the environmental monitoring program, and support a team of Environmental Officers, while working closely with site leadership, mining and CHPP contractors, and the regulators.
What you'll own
- Compliance with all regulatory and company environmental requirements across the operation
- Interpreting legislation, government guidelines and approvals, and turning them into clear direction for site
- Preparation, submission and compliance of all environmental statutory obligations and company standards
- Supporting closure planning and delivery of mine rehabilitation in accordance with the PRCP
- Coordinating operations, maintenance and monitoring strategies across Regulated Structures
- Environmental monitoring programs satisfying the requirements of the EA, PRCP and other relevant approvals
- Drive implementation and continuous improvement of the Environmental Management System
- Leading environmental investigations where required, and partnering with department managers to see improvement actions through to close-out
- Building solid working relationships with regulators and stakeholders
What you'll bring
- A degree in environmental science, ecology or a related field, with 7+ years' experience in environmental management, ideally in mining
- Strong working knowledge of Queensland environmental legislation and approvals, including EA and PRCP obligations
- Experience leading a team, running environmental investigations and influencing managers and contractors to deliver on actions
- Confidence working with regulators and auditors
- Experience with ISO 14001 or similar environmental management systems and ArcGIS is highly regarded
This is a site-based role operating on a 5/2 roster. Locally based candidates are preferred, with housing and vehicle assistance available.
FIFO and DIDO arrangements are also available, with flights from Brisbane and a company vehicle provided for travel to and from site.
This is a direct recruitment campaign and applications submitted via agencies will not be accepted.
