Engage Construction is a locally owned residential and remedial builder working across Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs, Inner West and Lower North Shore. Since 2018 we’ve delivered architectural renovations and remedial work, much of it in strata buildings. We’re a small business that cares about doing things properly, and we want the same standard in our books.

The role

This role is for someone who can take the finance function and run it. You’ll keep our numbers accurate and up to date, and tell us early when something needs attention. You’ll report to the Operations Manager and work with the Director and our external accountant.

What you’ll look after

- Bank reconciliations and keeping the ledger accurate and coded correctly
- Accounts payable in Xero, including supplier bills and subcontractor payments
- Recording client invoices and payments (our Project Administrator prepares progress claims; you’ll make sure they’re tracked and paid)
- Following up overdue client payments
- Weekly payroll from timesheets, including super, leave and Single Touch Payroll




- Ensure our accounts are prepped ahead of BAS time, working with our accountant
- Month-end reporting and a clear weekly picture of cash flow
- Improving how we do things, where you see a better way

About you

- Degree in accounting or finance, completed or in progress
- At least one to two years of hands-on bookkeeping experience in Xero
- Experience running payroll yourself, including super and Single Touch Payroll
- Comfortable working on your own and making sensible calls without someone checking every step
- Organised, accurate and willing to ask questions when something doesn’t add up
- Construction or trades experience is a bonus, not a requirement
