About the opportunity
We are looking for a Financial Analyst to join our APAC Finance team, based in either Sydney or Melbourne. Working closely with the CFO APAC, Partners, Finance Operations Lead and business stakeholders across Australia and New Zealand, you will play an important role in delivering reliable financial reporting, robust financial controls and commercially relevant insight across the region.
This is an opportunity for a finance professional with around 2-4 years of experience to take ownership of core finance activities within a growing global consultancy. You will gain broad exposure across financial accounting, reporting, planning and commercial analysis, while working with senior stakeholders and contributing to better decision-making across APAC.
Your responsibilities will include month-end close, financial statements, reconciliations, budgeting, forecasting, tax and statutory reporting, audit support, cashflow management and commercial analysis. You will also contribute to process improvements and reporting initiatives that help strengthen the way our finance function operates.
What you will do
Financial reporting and month-end close
- Prepare accurate and timely monthly financial statements, including the Profit and Loss, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow statements.
- Support Group and local management reporting across APAC.
- Coordinate month-end close activities for specified practices, including journals, accruals, prepayments, provisions and other adjustments.
- Help ensure month-end close is completed within five to seven business days.
- Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and support accurate, well-controlled financial information.
- Complete monthly bank and balance sheet reconciliations, investigate discrepancies and maintain effective financial controls and audit trails.
Financial analysis and commercial insight
- Analyse financial performance and provide clear commentary on Profit and Loss and Balance Sheet variances, trends and key drivers.
- Review practice and project profitability, revenue performance and cost performance.
- Support Partners and business stakeholders with analysis that enables informed commercial decision-making.
- Contribute to sales pipeline visibility, forecast accuracy and cashflow analysis.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, reporting and financial performance across the region.
Planning, compliance and improvement
- Support annual budgets and monthly reforecasts.
- Support tax and statutory obligations, including BAS, payroll tax, PAYG and IRD requirements.
- Assist with annual and external audits.
- Contribute to finance process improvements, reporting initiatives and special projects.
- Work collaboratively with stakeholders across Australia and New Zealand to improve financial visibility and business performance.
What you will bring
You will be a self-starter who combines strong financial accounting discipline with commercial curiosity, sound judgement and the confidence to work with senior stakeholders.
You will ideally have:
- A degree in finance, accounting, business or a related discipline. A CA or CPA qualification is desirable.
- Approximately two to four years of experience in financial accounting, financial analysis or a comparable role.
- Exposure to month-end and year-end close activities.
- A strong understanding of financial reporting,
general ledger accounting, balance sheet reconciliations, variance analysis and accounting principles.
- Experience supporting tax, statutory compliance and audit activities.
- Exposure to BAS, payroll tax, PAYG, IRD or other APAC obligations is advantageous.
- Proficiency in Excel and accounting or ERP systems, preferably NetSuite.
- Experience with Power BI or similar reporting tools is advantageous.
- Strong analytical, communication and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail and sound professional judgement.
- The ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- The ability to translate financial analysis into clear, practical insights for different audiences.
Please note that candidates must have permanent full working rights in Australia.
