About Us
Exclusive Construction Machinery and Equipment Pty Ltd is a dynamic and growing civil construction and earthmoving business operating in Western Australia. We specialise in comprehensive earthworks, site preparation, and civil projects that support residential, commercial, and industrial developments. Our projects involve excavation, land clearing, bulk earthworks, trenching, drainage preparation and other essential groundwork that form the critical foundation for infrastructure and building works across the region.
Our team works with a modern fleet of machinery and experienced operators to deliver high-quality results safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
Role Overview
We are seeking a motivated Civil Engineering Technician to provide comprehensive technical support to our Civil Engineer across multiple earthworks and site-development projects in Western Australia.
The successful candidate will assist in collecting and analysing site data, preparing and updating engineering drawings, checking completed earthworks against approved drawings and specifications, calculating construction quantities, and preparing technical records and reports. The role combines office-based technical drafting and documentation with regular site attendance for field measurements, construction material testing, technical inspections and quality verification. It supports the accurate implementation and verification of civil engineering works in accordance with approved designs, relevant Australian Standards, project specifications and applicable WHS requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist Civil Engineers in preparing, interpreting and revising civil engineering sketches, technical drawings, plans and technical details for earthworks, site preparation, excavation, trenching and drainage works using AutoCAD and Civil 3D, based on engineering instructions, site measurements and approved design information.
- Prepare and update as-built drawings, drawing registers and associated technical documentation using AutoCAD and Civil 3D to reflect verified site conditions, completed civil engineering works and approved design changes.
- Undertake field measurements and collect site data relating to ground levels, excavation dimensions, earthworks profiles, drainage gradients and site formation to support civil engineering construction activities.
- Analyse and compare field measurements and survey data against approved engineering drawings, design levels, project specifications and applicable technical requirements, identify discrepancies and prepare technical data for review by the Civil Engineer.
- Assist in conducting and coordinating field and laboratory tests of soil and other construction materials, as required, recording results and analysing available test data against project specifications and acceptance criteria.
- Conduct technical inspections of earthworks, excavation, trenching,
drainage preparation and site-formation activities, assess completed works against approved drawings and engineering specifications, and document discrepancies and non-conformances for review and rectification.
- Monitor soil placement, filling, backfilling, compaction and drainage works by reviewing field measurements and available material test results, checking completed works against specified engineering requirements and reporting deviations for further assessment.
- Perform technical computations using site measurements, survey information, engineering drawings and relevant technical data to calculate and verify earthworks quantities, excavation and fill volumes, cut-and-fill requirements and construction material quantities.
- Prepare material quantity schedules, earthworks quantity summaries, technical tabulations and supporting tender documentation, and assist in estimating material and labour quantities and costs using engineering drawings, site measurements and relevant construction data.
- Compile and analyse field measurements, survey data, material testing results and inspection findings, and prepare technical reports, data sheets, charts, tabulations, inspection checklists and compliance records for review by the Civil Engineer.
- Check subcontractor drawings, method statements, technical submissions and construction documentation against approved engineering drawings, project specifications and applicable contract requirements, identify technical discrepancies and refer matters requiring engineering judgement or approval to the Civil Engineer.
- Interpret civil engineering work instructions and communicate technical site information, measurement requirements and relevant engineering specifications to site supervisors, machinery operators, subcontractors, surveyors and other project personnel to support the accurate implementation and verification of civil engineering works.
- Maintain accurate technical records of engineering drawings, field measurements, material testing results, inspection findings and project documentation to support technical verification, quality control, compliance reviews and construction handover.
- Identify and document site conditions and technical issues that may affect the quality or compliance of civil engineering construction works, and promptly report discrepancies and matters requiring further technical assessment to the Civil Engineer.
Skills & Qualifications Required
- Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Civil Engineering,
Civil Construction, Building Engineering Technology, or a closely related civil engineering or construction technology discipline. Applicants with other relevant qualifications and substantial, directly relevant civil engineering technical experience may also be considered.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in civil engineering technical support, earthworks, site preparation, drainage works or civil construction.
- Working knowledge of relevant Australian Standards and project specifications applicable to earthworks, soil testing, compaction and site development, including AS 3798 and relevant parts of the AS 1289 series, where applicable.
- Practical competency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D for preparing and updating civil engineering drawings and as-built documentation.
- Ability to interpret civil engineering drawings and specifications, undertake site measurements, record field data and assist with earthworks quantity calculations.
- Understanding of technical inspections, construction quality control, field reporting and documentation of non-conformances.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word. Working knowledge of MS Project is desirable.
- Strong communication and coordination skills when working with Civil Engineers, surveyors, site supervisors, subcontractors and machinery operators.
- Current White Card (Construction Induction Safety Certificate), or willingness and ability to obtain it before commencing site work, where required.
- Valid Australian driver licence, or the ability to obtain an appropriate licence before commencing duties requiring driving, and willingness to travel between project sites across Western Australia as required.
