Looking to join an exciting consumer brand on a mission to change drinking culture?
We’re hiring a Head of Brand & Marketing!
About Heaps Normal
We’re normalising mindful drinking by brewing beer that tastes so good, you won’t miss the alcohol. We’re not here to talk about being sober or hold that up as the end goal. Whether you’re taking a night off or ditching the booze for life, we reckon it’s time to talk about something more interesting. Whether that’s having a good time, a good chat and a good drink. We’re the weirdos redefining normal for the better and celebrating people who do the same.
Heaps Normal is an independent, non-alcoholic Australian beer company, brewing real beer without the hangover. As a B Corp certified business, we’re proud to be part of a global community using business as a force for good.
Our values
Shout the first round: Give first and be a valuable human. We don’t wait to be asked. We go out of our way to do what’s right for our team, our community and our environment.
Return the empties: We never walk past a problem. Whether it’s a spot fire or a raging inferno, we run towards the fire.
Build each other up: We look after ourselves and look out for our mates. This means investing in people, always putting family first and elevating those we interact with.
Question normal: Walk a mile in their shoes and try to see things from an alternative point of view. Your normal may not be my normal, and normal today may not be normal tomorrow.
About the role
Employment Type: Full-time
Location: On-site in Marrickville, Sydney
Manager: Chief Growth Officer
Reports: Five direct reports across our brand and creative team
David Walsh, the bloke behind Mona, put it better than we could: “Upset people if you can, make mistakes if you have to, just don’t let us drift to the fucking middle.”
That’s the job. We started in 2020 with one beer and a hunch. Now we make beer and wine, pour draught in pubs, sell through bottle shops, bars and restaurants in Australia and overseas, and run our own venue, the Heaps Normal Health Club, at our Marrickville HQ. This is the stage where most brands get sensible, sand off the edges and start sounding like everyone else. We’d rather not.
This is a new role, leading brand and marketing and reporting to our Chief Growth Officer. You’ll set the creative direction, lead our brand and creative team and make sure Heaps Normal shows up as one brand everywhere people find us: our online store, the trade, partnerships and collabs here and overseas, and over the bar at the Health Club.
We earn our place in culture by showing up for the communities we’re part of: live music, hospitality and drinks. We give first,
people come back and they bring their mates. Your job is to keep that going as we get bigger.
If you worked here this past year, here are some things you might have been involved in:
- You’ve led a talented creative team to build and launch Heaps Normal’s non-alcoholic wine brand, High Hopes. It was our biggest launch since day one, and it came with a punk music video, a zine and a smash room at the launch party.
- You’ve put out records through Heaps Normal Records, our in-house label that sends every dollar of profit back to the artist, including the debut single from Sydney punks Meow Meow & the Smackouts.
- You’ve helped open the Heaps Normal Health Club, our venue in Marrickville, and seen it named one of the 50 coolest retailers in the world by the World Retail Congress.
- You’ve teamed up with Lune on a Father’s Day pastry made with our Jazz Stout.
The responsibilities
Keep us out of the middle
- Set the brand and creative strategy across beer, wine and whatever comes next, and hold us to it as we grow.
- Back the ideas only we could and would do. If it’s not a hell yes, it’s a no.
- Take creative risks on purpose and own the misses.
- Stay close to what’s happening in music, hospitality and drinks, and keep us playing in new and exciting spaces.
Lead the creative work
- Brief, inspire and edit everything we make: campaigns, collabs, content, packaging, point of sale and merch.
- Lead brand partnerships and collabs with artists, venues and other brands, in Australia and overseas.
- Grow our community through events and Dispatch, our email newsletter.
Make it one brand
- Get brand and creative working as one system across D2C, wholesale and draught, partnerships and the Health Club.
- Work closely with our sales team and Venue Manager so the brand turns up properly in every bottle shop, every pub and at our own bar.
- Own the brand and marketing plan and budget, and show what the work did for brand preference, community and sales.
Build the team
- Lead and coach the brand and creative team with clear goals, honest feedback and room to do the best work of their careers.
- Sort out how work gets briefed, prioritised and made, so the team spends its time on the big ideas.
Let’s talk about you
- You’ve led brand,
marketing or creative work for consumer brands people talk about. It doesn’t have to be drinks. It could be a gallery, a record label, magazine, or a fashion label.
- You care about changing drinking culture, and you’re already in the rooms we care about: gigs, bars, restaurants, your local. What you drink is your business.
- You have taste and can explain it. Designers, writers and artists do better work with you than without you.
- You’ve built a team before: hired well, coached people up and had the hard conversations.
- You’ve made a call that upset someone and stood by it for the right reasons. You’ve also made one that was wrong, and can tell us what you did next.
- You’re commercial. You can run a budget, work alongside a sales team and show what the work delivered.
- You have eight or more years in brand, marketing or creative roles, including a few leading people.
- You’re in Sydney and keen to be in Marrickville with the team.
Why you should join Heaps Normal
- One week of life leave to give you that added flexibility to live your best life.
- Annual professional development budget to ensure you have the support you need to level up.
- Access to mental wellbeing services for you and your family through our Employee Assistance Program provider, Unmind
- Inclusive parental leave policy which supports all types of families. Includes paid leave for both primary and secondary carers and return to work assistance to match your personal needs.
- Know that you’re contributing to a positive impact. As a certified B Corp, we donate 1% of our revenue to charitable organisations with a shared purpose.
- Paid volunteer time off and matched giving to empower you to give back to your local community.
- Annual offsites and regular social events to keep you connected with your teammates, wherever you’re located.
- Last but not least: unlimited access to the good stuff. Enough Heaps Normal to keep your personal fridge stocked, year round.
Feel like you don’t tick every box?
If your experience doesn’t perfectly match every bullet point but you’re excited about our mission and think you’d thrive here, we’d still love to hear from you. We particularly encourage women and non-binary people to apply: they’re under-represented in drinks industry leadership, ours included, and we want to change that.
We’re an equal opportunities employer with an ongoing commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. If you have any support or access requirements, let us know at the time of your application and we’ll be happy to assist you through the recruitment process.
Applications close 29 October 2026. To apply, please email
