About the role

You will assess the safety, tolerability and performance of topical products developed or made by PlanetHerb. This is a non-clinical role. You will design and oversee skin safety studies, write safety assessments and advise formulators on ingredient choice.

Key responsibilities

- Design and oversee skin irritation, sensitisation and phototoxicity studies, in vitro and in vivo, including managing test houses.
- Review ingredient safety, using safety data, published dermal toxicology and exposure assumptions.
- Prepare safety assessments and dermatological evaluation reports for products.
- Support tolerability and efficacy studies, including protocol and consent review.
- Advise formulators on ingredient selection and concentration limits.
- Support claims substantiation for topical products.
- Work with the regulatory team on Australian requirements for topical and cosmetic products (TGA and ACCC).





Essential requirements

- Specialist qualification in dermatology (FACD or equivalent), or a PhD in dermatological science, toxicology or pharmacology.
- At least three years' experience in dermatology research, product safety or topical product testing.
- Knowledge of dermal toxicology and patch testing methods.
- Understanding of Australian requirements for topical and cosmetic products.
- Solid scientific report-writing skills.

Desirable

- Experience in contract or industrial dermatology studies.
- Familiarity with OECD test guidelines for skin testing.
- Formulation experience with topical actives.
- Experience with botanical and natural actives.

The person we are looking for

- Rigorous about study design, and willing to stop a product when the data does not support it.
- Writes safety conclusions that formulators and regulators can act on.
