The Opportunity & Why Apply
An exciting opportunity for experienced Heavy Diesel Fitters or Leading Hands to join a well-known mining contractor on a developing underground gold project in New Zealand's South Island. This is a great opportunity for a skilled tradesperson looking to step into leadership, with a predominantly hands-on role and the chance to develop their supervisory skills.
- Previous Leading Hand experience not essential - experienced HDFs encouraged to apply
- Even-time roster options, including 2:2 or 8:6 / 7:7 days and nights
- Casual rates of $85-$90ph + super, with the opportunity to transition to the contractor after six months
- Join a growing operation with 18-20 brand-new machines and a five-year mining contract
The Company
Join a well-established mining contractor with over 30 years of experience across Australia and internationally. The business has recently secured a major contract to support the redevelopment of a historic NZ gold mine.
- Established contractor specialising in underground hard-rock mining
- Recently awarded a five-year mining contract valued at approximately $406 million
- Scope includes underground development, production, backfill and associated mining services

- Historic underground gold operation undergoing major redevelopment
- Underground access via a 3.3km twin decline system
- Workforce expected to grow to approximately 280 personnel
- Modern fleet of 18-20 new machines,
with surface workshop facilities being expanded and a new mine camp on the way
The Role
A predominantly hands-on position, splitting your time between mechanical maintenance (80%) and Leading Hand responsibilities (20%). Working alongside the Maintenance Supervisor, you'll help coordinate a close-knit team of trades whilst remaining heavily involved on the tools.
- Lead and mentor HD Fitters and Auto Electricians, coordinating daily workloads and maintenance priorities
- Work closely with maintenance and production teams to manage breakdowns, shutdowns and equipment availability
- Hands-on servicing, diagnostics, mechanical repairs and underground breakdown support
- Maintaining a up-to-date Sandvik fleet including DD422i, DS422i, TH551, LH517i, LH307 and LH203
Your Skills & Experience
We're looking for experienced underground Heavy Diesel Fitters with strong technical skills and the right attitude to take on additional responsibility. Previous leadership experience is advantageous but not essential, making this a great opportunity to step up in your career.
- Australian recognised Heavy Diesel / Mobile Plant trade qualification and current driver's licence
- Underground hard-rock mining experience with extensive knowledge of Sandvik equipment
- Strong mechanical,
hydraulic and diagnostic skills, with the ability to work autonomously underground
