Principal Solicitor – Recent Melbourne Law Firm

We are establishing a new law firm in Melbourne and seeking an experienced Principal Solicitor to help build and lead the practice.

This is an opportunity to shape the firm’s legal services, establish professional standards and develop a team of lawyers and law graduates.

The firm aims to serve a diverse client base, including Melbourne’s South Asian communities, with a focus on accessible legal services and strong client relationships.

The role

- Act as the firm’s Principal Solicitor and formally appointed legal practitioner director.
- Oversee legal services, professional compliance and practice procedures.
- Manage client matters and provide advice within your areas of expertise.
- Lead, supervise and mentor a team of lawyers and law graduates, including graduates undertaking Practical Legal Training.
- Establish effective processes for client intake, conflicts, costs disclosure, file management and risk management.
- Contribute to recruitment, team development and the firm’s direction.
- Work with the founder on practice development and client relationships, while retaining appropriate authority over legal work and professional obligations.

About you
- Hold a current Australian practising certificate authorising practice as a principal and supervision of other lawyers.




- Have experience managing matters independently and supervising legal staff.
- Demonstrate sound professional judgement, strong communication skills and a practical approach to building a new practice.
- Be willing to accept formal appointment as the company’s legal practitioner director.
- Proficiency in additional languages other than English would be welcome but is not essential.

Location: Melbourne. Working arrangements and remuneration: Negotiable according to experience, availability and the responsibilities of the role.
