The Company

Are you a hands-on finance professional looking to take ownership of the finance function within a purpose-driven, growing organisation?

We're partnering with a national, industry-led not-for-profit organisation focused on strengthening Australia's workforce through education, skills development and workforce planning across the health, aged care, disability, early childhood education, human services, sport and recreation sectors.

Working closely with government and industry, the organisation plays an important role in identifying workforce needs, improving training pathways and supporting the development of a skilled workforce for the future.

With a small, collaborative team and a national footprint, this is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded Finance Manager who enjoys being hands-on, working across the full spectrum of finance and partnering closely with senior leadership.

The Role

Reporting to the Director of Corporate Services, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the finance function, balancing hands-on financial management with budgeting, reporting, compliance and strategic financial support.

As part of a lean organisation, this is a genuine end-to-end role where you will work closely with an external accounting firm to deliver accurate and timely financial reporting, manage compliance requirements and support the organisation's financial operations. You will also partner with the CEO, executive team and project leaders to provide meaningful financial insights, support decision-making and ensure funding is managed effectively.

You will manage one direct report, an Administration Officer, and play a key role in maintaining strong financial controls, improving processes and supporting the organisation's ongoing development.

Key Responsibilities

- Hands-on financial management: Oversee day-to-day finance operations, including accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, bank reconciliations, cash flow and expenditure monitoring.
- Financial reporting: Review monthly management accounts, analyse variances and prepare clear, accurate financial information for senior leadership, the Board and funding bodies.

- Budgeting and forecasting: Coordinate annual budgets, reforecasts and financial modelling, working closely with the external accounting firm and internal stakeholders.
- External provider management: Act as the primary contact for the outsourced accounting firm, coordinating financial reporting, payroll, audit requirements and statutory compliance.
- Funding and grants: Monitor grant expenditure, track funding milestones and prepare acquittals and financial reports in line with government funding agreements.
- Governance and compliance: Ensure compliance with Australian Accounting Standards, taxation obligations, ACNC reporting requirements and relevant funding conditions.
- Process improvement: Identify opportunities to strengthen financial processes, reporting, systems and internal controls.
- Team leadership: Support and develop one direct report while fostering a collaborative and accountable working environment.

Your Profile

You are a proactive, detail-oriented finance professional who enjoys taking ownership and getting involved in the detail. You are comfortable operating in a small organisation where flexibility, initiative and the ability to manage competing priorities are essential.

You will ideally bring:

- A degree or tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or Commerce, with CA/CPA qualification or working towards completion.
- At least five years' experience in finance or accounting, including two or more years at a management or senior accountant level.
- Strong experience across financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis.
- The ability to manage relationships with external accounting providers, auditors and other stakeholders.
- Sound knowledge of Australian accounting standards, taxation and financial compliance.

- Advanced Excel skills and confidence working with financial systems and reporting tools.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate financial information for non-finance stakeholders.
- A hands-on, solutions-focused approach and the confidence to work autonomously in a small, distributed team.

Experience within the not-for-profit sector, government-funded programs, grant acquittals or ACNC reporting would be advantageous.

What's on Offer?

- The opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to workforce development across essential Australian industries.
- A broad, hands-on Finance Manager role with exposure to senior leadership and Board-level reporting.
- The opportunity to take ownership of the finance function within a small, collaborative organisation.
- A close working relationship with the Director of Corporate Services and an established external accounting firm.
- Hybrid working arrangements, with flexibility to work from anywhere in Australia and occasional travel as required.
