Mackay Regional Council
Mackay
ESC061 Capital Delivery Inspector
Ready to take your trade or construction experience in a new direction? This is an ideal next step for an experienced carpenter, trade supervisor or construction professional looking to move into project inspection and capital delivery. You will work across Council project sites, using your practical judgement to support quality outcomes across building, civil, roads, parks and plumbing-related capital works for the Mackay community.
About this opportunity:
You will provide practical, on-site oversight of capital projects delivered by external contractors. Working with a high level of autonomy, you will visit project sites, monitor works, identify issues early and report clearly on progress, quality, safety and environmental outcomes. You will manage your day-to-day site priorities while being supported by an experienced and collaborative project delivery team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Inspect building, civil, roads, parks and plumbing-related capital works to confirm compliance with contracts, construction drawings, specifications, standards and regulatory requirements.
- Undertake regular site visits to monitor construction quality, workplace health and safety, environmental performance and progress, documenting non-conformances, risks and contractor breaches.
- Maintain accurate daily diaries, progress reports and site records, providing timely information and practical observations back to project delivery teams.
- Interpret and apply construction drawings, plans, specifications, work packages and construction management plans in an on-site environment.
- Provide clear technical advice and work constructively with contractors, trade-based workforces, asset owners, utilities, authorities and internal teams to resolve site and compliance issues.
- Help improve Council's inspection, compliance and project delivery practices.
What you will bring:
We are seeking a practical, self-motivated person who can confidently work across multiple project sites and build constructive relationships with contractors and delivery teams. Formal inspection experience is not essential if you bring strong construction knowledge, sound judgement, initiative and a genuine commitment to developing a long-term career in capital project delivery.
- A carpentry trade qualification is preferred; alternatively, extensive demonstrated experience delivering,
supervising or inspecting building and construction works.
- General Construction Induction Training.
- A current Queensland 'C' Class Driver Licence or interstate equivalent. Interstate licences must be transferred to Queensland within three months of commencement.
- Practical experience in construction, contracting or trade supervision, including site monitoring, daily diaries, progress reporting and quality documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to read, interpret and apply construction drawings, plans, scopes of work, specifications and construction management plans on site.
- Sound knowledge of construction practices, quality assurance, workplace health and safety and environmental requirements.
- A proactive and adaptable approach, strong judgement and attention to detail, with the ability to work autonomously, learn Council processes and build constructive working relationships.
The classification offered will reflect the successful candidate's qualifications and experience. Appointment at Level 5 requires formal quality assurance training; candidates without this training may still be considered for appointment at Level 4.
Desirable experience:
Experience overseeing civil, roads, parks, plumbing or other trade-based capital works will be highly regarded. Previous local government experience is also desirable.
