About the role

Outback Coast Group Pty Ltd is seeking an experienced Heavy Diesel Mechanic for a FIFO position in Dampier.

Working a 2 weeks on, 1 week off roster, you will maintain and repair a mixed fleet of civil construction, road transport and earthmoving equipment. The position involves planned servicing, routine inspections, fault diagnosis and breakdown repairs in a site-based workplace.

To be considered, you must have relevant civil maintenance experience and hold current Rio Tinto inductions.

Key responsibilities

- Conduct routine inspections and identify defects or maintenance requirements

- Perform scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance

- Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical faults

- Attend field and workshop breakdowns and return equipment to service safely

- Maintain civil earthmoving equipment, road transport vehicles and ancillary plant

- Complete component change-outs and general mechanical repairs

- Minimise equipment downtime through efficient fault-finding and repairs

- Read and interpret technical information, schematics and work orders

- Complete service sheets, inspection reports and maintenance records accurately

- Communicate equipment condition and repair requirements to supervisors

- Maintain tools, service vehicles and work areas to a high standard

- Comply with Rio Tinto procedures and all site health, safety and environmental requirements

Equipment experience

Applicants should have practical maintenance and breakdown experience across a range of equipment, which may include:

- Excavators and diggers

- Dozers and graders

- Loaders and skid steers

- Rollers and compactors

- Water carts and service trucks

- Prime movers, trailers and road trains

- Tippers and other heavy road transport equipment

- Light vehicles and ancillary civil plant

Experience with Caterpillar, Komatsu, Hitachi, Volvo or similar equipment will be highly regarded.

What you will need





- Australian-recognised trade qualification as a Heavy Diesel Mechanic, Diesel Mechanic, Heavy Vehicle Mechanic or Heavy Diesel Fitter

- Demonstrated civil construction or earthmoving maintenance experience

- Proven experience maintaining road transport equipment and excavators

- Current Rio Tinto inductions - essential

- Current Australian driver's licence

- Strong mechanical, hydraulic and electrical fault-finding skills

- Experience completing routine inspections, servicing and breakdown repairs

- Ability to work safely and efficiently with limited supervision

- Good communication, teamwork and maintenance record-keeping skills

- Ability to complete a 2:1 FIFO roster in Pilbara conditions

- Full Australian working rights

A forklift, HR or higher driver's licence, working at heights, confined space and first aid qualifications will be highly regarded but are not stated as essential.
