ROLE – Mechanical Design Engineer

SALARY - $110,000 - $130,000 per annum, dependent on experience

TYPE – Permanent

LOCATION – Melbourne, VIC

My client designs and manufactures bespoke heavy vehicle equipment. They are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team in Melbourne on a permanent basis.

The Mechanical Design Engineer will ideally have the following attributes:

- At least 2 years’ experience in a Mechanical Design Engineering position
- Previous experience designing parts for heavy vehicles, trucks, trailers or similar equipment
- Highly skilled with 3D CAD, ideally SolidWorks, Inventor or similar
- Experience designing fabricated components, sheet metal and structural steel
- Valuable understanding of mechanical design principles and manufacturing processes
- Experience producing detailed engineering and manufacturing drawings
- Strong practical and hands-on approach to design
- Experience working closely with manufacturing and fabrication teams
- Able to manage multiple projects and work to deadlines




- Able to maintain technical documentation and BOMs
- Able to work well individually as well as part of a team

The Mechanical Design Engineer role will involve:

- Using 3D CAD for concept design, modelling and technical drawings
- Designing components and assemblies for heavy vehicles and equipment
- Producing detailed engineering and manufacturing drawings
- Developing and updating 3D models and engineering designs
- Working closely with manufacturing and fabrication teams
- Liaising with suppliers and external manufacturing providers
- Creating and maintaining BOMs and technical documentation
- Supporting the full design process from concept through to production
- Assisting with prototype builds, testing and final assembly
- Checking designs and drawings prior to manufacture
- Working in a small, multi-disciplinary team on varied engineering projects
