As a Waldorf school, we value natural materials, skilled craftsmanship and beautiful, welcoming learning environments. Timber features extensively throughout our classrooms and grounds, creating a varied opportunity for someone who enjoys both practical construction and creative, detailed work.

You will make our distinctive Waldorf furniture, assist with current building projects, and construct, install and repair timber structures and fittings throughout the school.
Responsibilities will include:
- Reading drawings and specifications to establish dimensions, materials and installation requirements.
- Selecting and ordering suitable timber and materials, measuring accurately and preparing layouts.
- Cutting, shaping and joining timber, and assembling components into finished furniture, structures and fittings.
- Making bespoke classroom furniture, including tables, chairs, shelving and storage.
- Assisting with framing, flooring, cladding, partitions, and door and window installation as required by our building projects.
- Checking completed work for alignment, accuracy, stability and quality.
- Repairing and restoring existing timber furniture, fixtures and structures.
- Working with staff to develop practical designs suited to our classrooms, outdoor spaces and Waldorf approach.
Skills and experience
We are looking for someone with:
- A recognised carpentry trade qualification or substantial relevant experience.
- Strong skills in measuring, setting out, cutting, joining, assembling and installing timber components.
- Confidence using carpentry tools and machinery safely and accurately.
- Experience interpreting plans and translating ideas into practical, well-finished work.
- The ability to organise materials, plan tasks and work independently.
- Attention to detail and pride in durable, high-quality craftsmanship.
- A team-oriented approach and an appreciation of working within a school community.
Experience in bespoke furniture making or joinery would be particularly welcome.
Working with us
Your work will become part of children’s everyday learning and play, contributing to a school environment shaped by care, creativity and connection to nature.
Hours, working arrangements and remuneration will be discussed with suitable applicants.
