About the role

This is a hands-on journalism position offering variety and opportunity for an enthusiastic and committed person to become an significant part of the communities in country Victoria we proudly serve.

Key responsibilities

- Finding, researching and writing engaging local news, sport and feature stories for print and online platforms.
- Getting out into the community, meeting people and building strong local connections.
- Covering council, community events, agriculture, sport and issues affecting country Victoria.
- Taking photographs and videos to accompany news updates, stories and features.
- Producing editorial content for special publications and advertising features.
- Working to daily online and weekly newspaper print production deadlines.
- Assisting with editing, proofreading, newspaper layout and other facets of newspaper production.
- Attending occasional evening and weekend events.

About you

- Has a genuine interest in people and country communities.




- Can recognise a good story and has the initiative and follow it through using eyes and ears to go beyond what's in front of the nose.
- Has strong writing, interviewing and communication skills.
- Is comfortable with photography.
- Can work independently and as part of a small, dedicated team.
- Is organised, reliable and able to meet deadlines.
- Enjoys getting out from behind a desk and talking to people.
