Allume Energy
Abbotsford
Full Stack Software Engineer
Salary Range: $115,000 – $130,000 base + super
Location: Melbourne (Hybrid)
About Allume
We're empowering millions of people to access clean, affordable energy.
We're a Melbourne-based technology company, and our world-first technology, SolShare, unlocks rooftop solar for apartment residents. This smart hardware connects a single rooftop solar system to multiple units and common areas, fairly distributing solar energy so everyone gets their fair share. SolShare helps reduce both energy bills and carbon emissions.
SolShare removes the technical and ownership barriers that have long prevented apartment households from accessing rooftop solar. We built it here in Melbourne, and it's now connected over 13,000 apartments across Australia, the UK and the US. We're doubling our installation base each year, and we're aiming to connect over 100,000 apartments by 2029. SolShare now also brings shared battery optimisation to apartment buildings.
We're growing quickly, and we need people who'll help us build what comes next.
What we offer
- Hybrid work: You’ll be based in our Melbourne office, with the flexibility to work from home. We get a lot out of face-to-face time, so we look forward to seeing you in the office regularly.
- Flexibility: We’d prefer this role to be full time, but if you’re returning to work or want more time for life outside it, we’d still love you to apply. Part-time looks different for everyone, and we’re happy to talk about what would suit you.
- Leave: 25 days (5 weeks) of annual leave, plus a ‘Half-Day Friday’ every fortnight where the whole team logs off at lunch.
- Progressive parental leave: 15 weeks paid leave for primary carers and 5 weeks for secondary carers, with no minimum tenure.
- Wellbeing: Free, confidential counselling and support through our Employee Assistance Program.
- Options: Share options through our Employee Share Option Plan (ESOP).

About the Role
Allume’s product sits at the intersection of mechanical, electrical, electronics, firmware and cloud software engineering. We build the hardware and software that make solar accessible to multi-tenant buildings worldwide.
We’re looking for a Full Stack Software Engineer to help expand and refine the platform managing our global fleet of connected SolShare devices and delivering real-time clean energy data to our users.
In this role, you will help design, build and deploy features across our NestJS backends and Vue.js frontends. You will join a dedicated, collaborative software team where you will have genuine autonomy over feature implementation, backed by active mentorship and architectural guidance from senior engineers.
If you are an enthusiastic engineer with solid foundations who enjoys solving practical problems, learning from a cooperative team, and seeing your code interact with real-world clean technology, we’d love to speak with you.
What you'll do
Key responsibilities include:
- Deliver full-stack features: collaborate from concept to production on clean backend services (NestJS/Node.js) and intuitive user interfaces (Vue.js).
- Guide feature implementation: break down requirements, estimate work thoughtfully, raise trade-offs early, document decisions and architecture, and see your initiatives through to release.
- Bridge software and clean tech: partner cross-functionally with our firmware, hardware, and product teams to integrate cloud services with live SolShare devices.
- Champion software quality: write meaningful unit and integration tests (Jest, Cypress) and engage in constructive code reviews that support continuous team learning.
- Leverage AI thoughtfully: use modern AI developer tooling to accelerate routine tasks and boilerplate, while upholding the exact same testing, security, and quality bar for everything you commit.
- Strengthen system health: identify bug patterns, improve edge-case handling,
and suggest pragmatic improvements to keep our platform performant and reliable.
- Work sustainably: contribute to a shared, balanced on-call rotation designed for team sustainability—supported by thorough runbooks, daytime primary shifts, and senior backup.
What You Bring
- Commercial web experience: a solid track record building and shipping production applications across both frontend and backend systems.
- Strong TypeScript / modern backend fundamentals: practical experience with modern Node.js frameworks (such as NestJS, Express, or similar structured architectures).
- Frontend fluency: experience building responsive, accessible web interfaces in modern frameworks like Vue.js or React (we use Vue 3, but if you have strong React/TypeScript skills and are eager to learn Vue, we will happily support that transition).
- Data modelling confidence: comfort working with relational databases (SQL), designing clear schemas, and querying data reliably.
- Independent critical thinking with modern tools: comfort using AI assistants to boost development velocity, paired with the strong fundamentals needed to question assumptions, catch edge cases, and take complete stewardship of the code you ship.
- A collaborative approach: clear communication, a proactive curiosity to explore unfamiliar technical domains, and a focus on building well-crafted, maintainable software.
Bonus Points (Not Required)
- Familiarity with AWS cloud services and CI/CD pipelines.
- Exposure to IoT systems, WebSockets, or streaming telemetry data.
- A shared interest in clean energy, sustainability, and climate solutions.
Right to work
You’ll need valid, unrestricted permanent work rights in Australia. We can’t offer visa sponsorship.
Interview process
We aim to respond within two weeks, and the full process usually takes four to six weeks. There are three stages:
- Round 1: Online interview (15 minutes) – a short conversation about your experience, what you’re looking for and why Allume interests you.
- Round 2: Technical deep dive (1 hour) – an in-person discussion with the hiring manager about your technical experience and how you’d approach the problems in this role.
- Round 3: Values and team alignment (1.5 hours) – a final conversation with the hiring manager and the wider team, so both sides can work out whether Allume is the right fit.
