Executive Assistant to CEO & Executive Chairman
A trusted executive role at the heart of Western Australian business.
Fixed-Term Parental Leave Appointment | Full-Time | Perth CBD | Immediate Start Preferred
A great Executive Assistant does far more than manage a diary. They anticipate what's coming, create order from competing priorities, build relationships that make things happen and give the people they support the confidence to focus on what matters.
That's the kind of person we're looking for at Business News.
We're offering an experienced Executive Assistant the opportunity to work closely with our CEO and Executive Chairman, supporting the leadership of one of Western Australia's most respected independent business media organisations.
With an immediate start preferred and a structured handover alongside our current EA ahead of parental leave in January 2027, you'll have the opportunity to understand the business, build relationships and confidently take ownership of the role.
The Opportunity
Business News connects the people, companies and decisions shaping Western Australia's future. Our business spans independent journalism, business intelligence, data, major events and subscriptions, giving our team a unique connection to the state's business community.
This is a trusted position requiring exceptional organisation, sound judgement, initiative and the ability to work independently.
It's about more than completing tasks. It's about anticipating needs, taking ownership and ensuring important things happen.
You'll have genuine autonomy within clear responsibilities, exposure to senior business leaders and the opportunity to improve the systems and processes that help our organisation operate effectively.
What You'll Do
- Keep our executives a step ahead. Proactively manage priorities, calendars, correspondence, meetings and travel, anticipating requirements and ensuring time is aligned with what matters most.
- Take ownership and follow through. Coordinate commitments, track actions, follow up with stakeholders and keep important matters progressing through to completion without constant direction.
- Exercise sound judgement. Manage routine matters independently within agreed authority, identify competing priorities and confidently clarify or respectfully challenge requirements when necessary.
- Bring structure and improve processes.
Develop and maintain practical systems that streamline workflows, improve accountability and make the business more effective, without creating unnecessary bureaucracy.
- Build relationships that make things happen. Work confidently and constructively with colleagues, senior executives, clients and external stakeholders, balancing professionalism and accountability with warmth and approachability.
- Support essential business administration. Coordinate executive and leadership meetings, HR administration, including onboarding and employee documentation, expenses and agreed office administration responsibilities, while keeping executive support as the priority.
What Makes You a Great Fit?
We're looking for an experienced, resourceful professional who combines exceptional organisational ability with genuine initiative, strong interpersonal skills and a practical, process-driven mindset.
You'll bring:
- Demonstrated experience in executive support or substantial senior administration requiring independent judgement, discretion and accountability.
- Exceptional organisational and forward-planning skills, with the ability to anticipate needs, manage competing demands and stay several steps ahead.
- A strong sense of ownership and the confidence to make decisions, solve problems and follow matters through to completion.
- A naturally process-driven approach, with demonstrated experience improving systems, workflows or ways of working.
- Excellent communication skills and a warm, approachable manner, with the confidence to engage senior stakeholders, follow people up and respectfully challenge priorities.
- Strong attention to detail, sound judgement, discretion and proficiency in Microsoft Office, with the ability to adapt quickly to new systems.
Above all, you're dependable, constructive and comfortable working independently while remaining a valued part of a collaborative team.
You don't need to have every answer. You do need to know how to ask good questions, find practical solutions and make things happen.
What You Can Expect From Us
We believe exceptional executive support is built on trust, clear communication and mutual respect. You'll be encouraged to think ahead, contribute ideas and confidently raise issues when priorities need clarification.
This is an opportunity to be a trusted contributor, not simply someone who completes tasks.
You'll also enjoy:
- Meaningful business exposure: Work closely with the leadership of an influential WA business and engage with people and organisations shaping the state's future.
- Genuine responsibility and autonomy: Have the trust and chance to apply your experience, exercise judgement and make a visible contribution.
- A comprehensive handover: Work alongside our current EA through a structured transition, giving you time to understand the business, establish relationships and confidently take ownership.
- Variety and challenge: Be involved in an evolving business spanning news, data, events and commercial activity.
- A collaborative workplace: Join a team that values professionalism, initiative, accountability and positive working relationships.
- The opportunity to make a lasting contribution: Help improve systems and ways of working that will continue delivering value beyond your appointment.
