Title: Energy Trading Specialist
At OptiGrid, we’re building the technology to significantly improve the economics of grid-connected batteries and accelerate the clean energy transition. Our proprietary forecasting and optimisation platform outperforms the status quo, with solid customer traction across the NEM, from sub-5MW hybrids to utility-scale scheduled batteries. Backed by prominent deep-tech and clean-tech investors, our team of software engineers, data scientists and power system modellers is growing.
We’re hiring an Energy Trading Specialist to be the trading voice inside our product team. This is a senior, multidisciplinary role: part market expert, part product manager, part trusted advisor to our customers.
What you will do
Product
- Manage the trading product roadmap. Turn market insight and customer feedback into clear specifications, prioritise them with our Tech Lead, and work directly with engineers through each sprint.
- Be our platform’s most demanding user and the trading expert in our internal decision-making processes.
Market analysis
- Analyse important market events and turn the findings into product priorities and customer insights.
- Work with our data science and backtesting team to tune bidding strategies.
- Lead our market insight content, including case studies and market commentary.
Growth
- Be the trading subject matter expert in internal and external meetings.
- Lead onboarding and strategy set-up for new customers.
- Build relationships across the NEM trading community and represent OptiGrid at industry events.
What you bring
- 5+ years in the NEM across spot trading, trading operations or autobidding, ideally including battery assets.
- Experience overseeing or shaping an automated bidding platform, whether on a trading desk or at a vendor.
- Deep understanding of dispatch and pricing, bidding and rebidding, FCAS, network constraints and the drivers of market outcomes.
- A good grasp of market forecasting and battery optimisation, and how they translate into bids.
- Be able to explain complex trading concepts to energy traders, asset owners and investors alike.
- High ownership and comfort with ambiguity.
Desirable
- Experience with offtake and hedge structures such as virtual tolling agreements, caps and PPAs.
- SQL and Python sufficient to explore data independently.
- Product management or vendor-side customer experience.
Why OptiGrid
- A senior seat in a fast-growing deep-tech company, with direct influence on product and strategy.
- A team of optimisation, forecasting and power systems experts who take trader feedback seriously.
- Competitive salary, meaningful share options and flexible working.
Based in Sydney, Melbourne, or Adelaide (hybrid). Remote within Australia considered for the right candidate.
