Josh Byrne & Associates (JBA) is a Fremantle-based consultancy bringing together sustainability, landscape architecture, urban design, communications and engagement. We work with government, developers and communities to improve the sustainability and resilience of the places where people live.

Our projects range from urban development and precinct planning to local government sustainability strategies, urban greening and waterwise communities.

About the role

We are seeking a Sustainability Consultant at mid to senior level, with at least five years of relevant industry experience. Hands-on experience with Green Star rating tools is essential.

You will help clients turn sustainability aspirations into practical strategies, project requirements and actions. The role combines technical advice, strategy development, certification support and project coordination across urban development, precincts and civic and community projects in WA.

You will work alongside our sustainability specialists and landscape architects, with responsibility matched to your experience. Senior candidates will be expected to lead projects and manage client relationships.

What you will do

- Develop sustainability strategies and action plans for developments, precincts and local government.

- Deliver Green Star Communities work, including reviewing credit requirements, coordinating evidence and preparing submission documentation.

- Integrate water efficiency, urban greening, climate resilience and resource efficiency into project advice.

- Work with clients and project teams to set priorities, assess options and translate technical findings into clear recommendations.

- Manage project tasks, budgets and deadlines, and prepare reports and presentations.





What you will bring

- At least five years’ professional experience in sustainability, with a strong track record in built workplace projects.

- Hands-on experience delivering Green Star rated projects, including contributing to certification submissions.

- Experience developing practical sustainability strategies or action plans for urban development, precincts or local government.

- Strong research, analysis and report-writing skills, with the ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical audiences.

- The ability to manage several projects, work independently and contribute to a multidisciplinary team.

- Relevant qualifications in sustainability, environmental science, planning, engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.

Additional experience we value

- Water sensitive urban design, integrated water management, urban greening or climate adaptation.

- Other built environment sustainability assessment frameworks.

- Facilitating workshops or working with clients and stakeholders to develop and implement sustainability actions.
