Major industries in the area include Coal Mining, Power Generation, Beef Production, dryland cropping and irrigation such as Lucerne and Cotton.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESUndertake general maintenance and repairs on light vehicles, plant and equipment in the Workshop and in the field in accordance with manufacturer's specifications and Council's preventative maintenance programUndertake general welding fabrication, repairs and hard facing repairs to ground engaging toolsMaintain the field service unit and contribute to the appearance of the workshopDiagnose and repair mechanical problemsAssist with the supervision of apprentices and work experience staffTravel to any of Council's workshops within the Shire as requiredRespond to enquiries from internal and external customers promptly and professionallyContribute to the continuous improvement of Workshop practicesParticipate in stocktakes and maintenance of tooling and lubrication dispensing productsContribute to the promotion of the image of the Council and the maximisation of good public relationsLiaise with clients, other Council staff, the public, consultants,



utility and government authorities in the performance of duties including providing and obtaining informationUndertake routine administrative tasks as required by the position eg.
job cards, timesheetsAssist senior staff to continuously improve work processes and develop new practices as requiredParticipate in training, exercises and response to disaster management and recovery as requiredUndertake other relevant duties as directed, consistent with skills, competence and training.QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND LICENCE REQUIREMENTSCompulsoryDiesel Mechanic Fitter or Motor Trade QualificationCurrent C Class Drivers Licence (minimum provisional licence required)Construction Induction White Card.Air Conditioning TicketCurrent MR or HR Class Drivers LicenceABILITIES, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREDCompulsoryDemonstrated experience maintaining medium and heavy plant (although light vehicle mechanics with broad experience will also be considered)Demonstrated welding and fabrication experienceExcellent customer service skills together with demonstrated ability to display initiative and work effectively in a team setting under minimal supervisionSound level of oral and written communication skillsDemonstrated knowledge of and commitment to EEO and WHS principles, practices and legislation
