Lawyers, Ready for a Career Beyond Legal Practice?
Associate Director - Owners Corporation | Experienced Lawyers Encouraged to Apply
Leave the billable hours behind. Not your professional standing, career ambitions or earning potential.
You've spent years building your legal career, developing the judgement, analytical skills and professional confidence to navigate complex issues, advise clients and resolve disputes.
But perhaps you've reached a point where you're questioning whether traditional legal practice is where you want to spend the next 10 or 20 years.
For many experienced lawyers, the challenge isn't deciding whether they want a change. It's finding an alternative that values their experience, offers meaningful professional work and doesn't require a substantial financial sacrifice.
At Advance Strata Consulting Group, we believe you shouldn't have to start again to pursue a different career.
Lawyers Have Already Made the Transition With Us
We have several former legal practitioners within our team who have successfully transitioned into Owners Corporation Management.
Among them is a former property lawyer with over 20 years of legal experience who holds accreditation as a Property Law Specialist with the Law Institute of Victoria.
You'll work alongside professionals who understand the demands of legal practice, recognise the value of your training and can support you in developing the industry-specific knowledge needed to succeed.
This is a career transition we've already helped others make, not an experiment we're asking you to undertake.
About Us
Advance Strata Consulting Group is a Melbourne-headquartered professional Owners Corporation Management firm specialising in residential, commercial and mixed-use developments across Victoria.
We operate in a highly regulated environment where property, governance, legislation, financial management and stakeholder relationships intersect.
Our multidisciplinary team includes professionals with backgrounds in law, accounting, engineering, banking and other commercial disciplines. We work with Owners Corporation Committees, property developers, senior executives and specialist consultants to manage complex property assets and their associated governance and operational requirements.
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced lawyer interested in building a long-term career in Owners Corporation Management.
You'll take responsibility for the day to day management of a portfolio of Owners Corporations, advising and working closely with Committees, Chairpersons and other stakeholders on governance, compliance, financial oversight,
dispute resolution and operational matters.
The position calls for the same qualities that underpin successful legal practice: sound judgement, legislative understanding, clear communication, commercial awareness and the ability to manage competing interests.
This is not a practising lawyer position or a conventional real estate property management role. It is a professional management and client advisory position within a specialised, regulated industry.
Previous Owners Corporation Management experience is not required.
We value the professional capabilities you've developed throughout your legal career and your willingness to apply them in a new environment. Comprehensive training and ongoing support will be provided, drawing on our proven experience in successfully transitioning former legal practitioners into Owners Corporation Management.
What You'll Be Doing
Manage a portfolio of residential, commercial and mixed-use Owners Corporations.
Guide Committees on governance, legislative compliance and operational matters within the scope of the management role.
Convene, attend and chair Annual General Meetings and Committee Meetings.
Manage stakeholder relationships, competing interests and complex disputes.
Oversee budgets, financial reporting, levies and expenditure in collaboration with our accounting team.
Coordinate building maintenance, compliance and operational matters with facilities managers, contractors and specialist consultants.
Prepare professional correspondence, reports and recommendations for Committees.
Liaise with external lawyers, engineers and other professional advisers where required.
Take ownership of portfolio priorities and ensure matters are progressed efficiently and professionally.
Your Experience Is Worth Something. So Is Your Salary.
A career change shouldn't automatically mean a pay cut.
We recognise the years of training, professional experience and earning capacity that experienced lawyers bring to our organisation.
For the right candidate, we are prepared to discuss a competitive remuneration package comparable to their current legal practice salary, taking into account experience, capability and the responsibilities of the position.
Our objective is to attract accomplished professionals seeking a genuine long-term career change, rather than expecting them to disregard the value of the experience they've already accumulated.
A Different Professional Environment
Owners Corporation Management offers a different way to apply your professional skills, outside the traditional billable-hour model.
You'll develop ongoing relationships with clients, exercise considerable autonomy in managing your portfolio and work across a diverse range of property, governance and operational matters.
It's important to recognise that this is still a demanding profession. You'll encounter difficult conversations, competing deadlines, contentious issues and situations requiring diplomacy and resilience.
However, for lawyers who enjoy advising clients, resolving problems and exercising professional judgement, it offers an opportunity to pursue those interests in a different commercial setting.
What We're Looking For
A qualified lawyer with relevant post-admission experience.
Experience in property law, commercial law, litigation, dispute resolution, construction law or related practice areas would be advantageous.
Strong analytical ability, legislative interpretation skills and sound skilled judgement.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
Confidence engaging with senior executives, professionals and demanding stakeholders.
Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
A commercially minded, practical and solutions-oriented approach.
The ability to remain composed and professional in challenging situations.
A willingness to develop expertise in the financial, operational and administrative aspects of Owners Corporation Management.
A genuine interest in establishing a long-term career outside traditional legal practice.
What We Offer
Competitive remuneration:
Packages that recognise your professional experience, with salary comparability considered for suitable candidates.
Experienced legal mentors:
Work alongside former lawyers, including an LIV Accredited Property Law Specialist with over 20 years' legal experience.
A genuine career alternative:
Apply your legal training in a qualified, client-facing role outside the traditional billable-hour model.
Multidisciplinary expertise:
Collaborate with experienced legal, accounting, engineering and commercial professionals.
Dedicated support:
Access to established accounting and administrative support teams.
Professional development:
Industry-specific training, ongoing support and opportunities for long-term career progression.
