The Aboriginal Areas Protection Authority is seeking experienced anthropologists to join its Research team in Alice Springs or Darwin.

As an Anthropologist, you will undertake anthropological fieldwork, consultations and research relating to Authority Certificates, sacred site registrations, site damage matters and other areas of the Authority’s responsibilities. You will document research through reports, maps, images and audio recordings, maintain the Authority’s records and liaise with applicants, landowners and Aboriginal custodians.

As a Senior Anthropologist, you will independently plan and undertake complex anthropological research projects, consultations and fieldwork. You will provide strategic anthropological advice, undertake peer review, mentor junior staff and support the prioritisation and delivery of the Authority’s research program.





Both positions require an Honours degree, or higher qualification, in Anthropology or an equivalent discipline, experience conducting anthropological research in an Aboriginal context, strong report-writing and communication skills, and the ability to undertake extended remote fieldwork. A manual driver’s licence is essential.

These positions provide an opportunity to contribute directly to the protection of Aboriginal sacred sites while working with Aboriginal custodians, landowners, applicants and other stakeholders across the Northern Territory.
