The role, day to day
You'll design and lead a mix of civil projects, many of them for local councils. Roads, drainage, footpaths, car parks, streetscapes and the occasional curly one that keeps things interesting.

You'll be the engineer and the project lead. That means the calcs and the drawings, plus the client meetings, the programme and the budget. You'll know what a council project manager needs before they ask, because you've been on these jobs before.

There's room to guide junior engineers too. Not a formal management role; more the person they come to when something doesn't add up.

A short checklist

- A civil engineering degree
- Solid civil design experience, at a senior level, Civil3D or 12D
- Council projects under your belt; you know how local government works
