If you enjoy family law but would love more flexibility, greater control over your working day, and a firm that’s open to rethinking the traditional way legal services are delivered, this could be just what you’re looking for!
I’m working with a progressive Melbourne family law firm that has built its practice around technology, fixed-fee pricing and a genuinely flexible approach to working. Rather than measuring success by hours spent at a desk, the focus is on delivering excellent outcomes for clients, working efficiently and creating a sustainable career for its lawyers.
Here’s what makes this opportunity different:
- Remote-first really means remote-first. Work from home or the office as you prefer, with attendance generally limited to quarterly firm-wide training days and when client meetings or other practical needs require it. The systems and technology are already in place to make remote working effective.
- Flexibility without putting your career on hold. Full-time and part-time arrangements are both welcome. The team understands that life outside work matters, and there’s room to find a working arrangement that suits your circumstances without sacrificing engaging work or professional development.
- A modern approach to family law. The firm operates on a fixed-fee model rather than the traditional billable-hour structure, using technology and efficient processes to move matters forward. You’ll be joining a team that’s open to new ideas and interested in continually improving how family law services are delivered.
- Room to keep growing. You’ll have access to a generous professional development allowance,
ongoing investment in your skills and opportunities to develop your career as the practice grows. The firm also offers paid parental leave to eligible employees after two years of service.
You’ll work across a mix of parenting and property matters, managing your own files, and building relationships with clients who need thoughtful, practical advice during significant periods of their lives. The client base is varied, including individuals with more complex financial circumstances, so there’s scope to work on interesting matters and continue developing your technical skills!
You’ll ideally have around 3–5 years’ post-admission experience in family law, sound technical skills, and the confidence to manage matters independently. Just as importantly, you’ll be comfortable using technology and interested in finding smarter ways to work, rather than simply doing things because that’s how they’ve always been done.
This role would suit someone who values autonomy but still enjoys being part of a supportive team, wants to keep developing professionally, and is excited by the idea of contributing to a modern, growing practice.
Salary: $110,000–$160,000 + super for a full-time position.
If you’re looking for a family law role that offers a different way of working, without giving up challenging matters, career development or the support of a team, I’d love to have a confidential chat.
Apply now or reach out to Lauren Benstead on (03) 9077 7*** or via email ***************@engagepersonnel.com.au for a confidential chat.
Not quite the right role? Let’s talk anyway. I have a range of opportunities that could be the perfect fit for you, and I'd love to hear from you!
