Supporting exceptional care, beyond our hospital doors.
At Tasmanian Veterinary Hospitals, we’re committed to providing compassionate, professional care throughout every stage of our patients’ treatment.
We’re seeking a reliable and caring Patient Transport Driver to join our team, supporting the safe transfer of patients between our four hospitals and Animal Emergency Service (AES) for overnight hospitalisation.
About the role
Our Patient Transport Driver plays an important role in maintaining continuity of care across our hospitals.
You’ll collect patients from our TVH hospitals in the evenings and transport them to AES for overnight care, then return them to the appropriate TVH hospital the following morning.
You’ll use our dedicated TVH patient transport van to complete all transfers.
Working closely with our veterinary and nursing teams, your responsibilities will include:
- Providing safe, timely transport with attention to patient comfort and wellbeing.
- Coordinating collections, deliveries and handovers with TVH and AES teams.
- Following patient-specific instructions and safe animal handling procedures.
- Assisting with loading and unloading patients and transport equipment.
- Maintaining a clean vehicle and transport equipment.
- Communicating promptly with the veterinary team about any concerns during transport.
Hours of work
This is a permanent part-time position with a minimum of 9 hours per week.
Availability is required Wednesday to Friday mornings and evenings, with separate morning and evening shifts.
Flexibility to occasionally swap days with our other driver or work additional shifts to cover leave is also required.
About you
You take pride in your work and bring a calm, caring and professional approach. You understand that every patient in your care is someone’s much-loved pet and help make their journey as safe and comfortable as possible.
We’re looking for someone who:
- Holds a current, valid driver’s licence and demonstrates protected driving practices.
- Is dependable, punctual and organised.
- Is calm and confident around animals.
- Brings a friendly, professional approach to communication with our team, other clinics and clients.
- Can follow instructions carefully and work independently.
- Can safely assist with loading and unloading patients and equipment.
Previous experience in animal care or patient transport would be an advantage but not essential.
What you’ll receive
- A phone allowance.
- An annual professional development allowance for role-relevant training.
- Study leave.
- An annual pet-care allowance.
- Generous staff discounts.
- Discounts for immediate family members.
- The opportunity to contribute to patient care within a growing Tasmanian veterinary organisation.
