About our client
Our client is a private family office based in Subiaco, Perth. Established in 2021, it manages the private wealth, investments and privately owned assets of its principal and his family.
The office has a small team that includes an Executive Director, a Head of Tax, a Tax Compliance Manager, a finance team, a legal team and an in-house project management team.
Tax work in a family office is niche and detailed. It covers a broad range of privately owned assets that extend across the principal’s family, and the work involves significant values and strict deadlines.
The office works flexibly: as long as the work gets done, later starts and earlier finishes are fine. Our client describes its leadership as kind and ethical, and its workplace as safe and secure.
About the opportunity
This is a new, permanent full-time role reporting to the Head of Tax.
In this role, you will:
- Complete every task handed over by the Head of Tax reliably, without the need for follow-up
- Make sure tax deadlines, lodgements and project milestones are met, keeping the Head of Tax informed throughout
- Organise the Head of Tax’s workload so he can focus on technical tax work
- Keep the tax inbox and workflow moving with few delays
Day to day, you will manage the tax inbox, respond to routine queries and escalating technical items to the Head of Tax. You will act as the go-between for the Head of Tax and the appointed tax agent so items are lodged on time, and manage external tax consultants from an administrative perspective: purchase orders, consultant time checked against budget and payment paperwork.
You will also maintain tax correspondence, records and filing, support the Tax Risk Register, draft letters, take notes at tax meetings and prepare reports for the tax function. The role does not give tax advice or prepare tax returns.
The role suits two directions.
For someone building a career in tax, there is room to grow and mentoring from a Head of Tax who supports his people’s career growth. For someone with tax or support experience who wants a steady role, it offers consistent, well-organised work in a flexible environment.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Experience as an Executive Assistant, Legal Secretary, Legal Assistant or PA, or in a tax or accounting practice, or tax or accounting study
- Experience triaging an inbox, drafting correspondence and managing records and filing
- Experience taking meeting notes and preparing reports
- A record of working to strict deadlines with strong attention to detail
- Reliability: you see each task through to completion and ask the right questions early
- Discretion with confidential financial and personal information
- Experience with purchase orders, budget checks or payment paperwork (an advantage)
- Experience with Asana or a similar workflow tool (an advantage; training is provided)
- A Cert IV in Business (an advantage, not required)
What’s on offer
This permanent, full-time role offers a hybrid working arrangement, with 2 to 3 days in the Subiaco office and the rest from home. You choose your office days, and start and finish times are versatile to fit school drop-off and pick-up or other commitments.
You will be mentored by the Head of Tax on everything you need to know in the tax space. The work gives you exposure to niche, detailed tax matters across a family office’s private assets.
The office has parking in the building and is a 3 to 4 minute walk from Subiaco train station, in an area known for its cafe and restaurant culture.
Please note
This is a permanent role, and applicants must have working rights that align with long-term employment requirements in Australia.
Sponsorship will not be provided.
