Profusion is partnering with a financial services organization who are looking for a 'Senior Engineer - Mainframe' to join one of their departments on a permanent engagement. This will be a hybrid working model, with the office based in Surfers Paradise.

The client is looking for someone with the following:

Must Have

- Strong proficiency in mainframe technologies — COBOL and/or PLI, with working knowledge of JCL, CICS, IMS, and batch processing
- Experience developing and supporting applications on z/OS in a production environment
- Demonstrated comfort using AI tools for software engineering (e.g., AI coding assistants, code generation, AI-assisted debugging) — this is a core skill, not a nice-to-have
- Ability to investigate and resolve production issues on the mainframe — abend analysis, debugging, and performance diagnosis




- A mindset of curiosity and adaptability — willingness to work outside your comfort zone and extend into modern technology platforms

Highly Valued

- Experience with Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, and microservices
- Experience with event-driven architecture and messaging platforms (Kafka, MQ)
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and contemporary DevOps practices
- Experience in banking, financial services, or other regulated environments
