What you'll be doing
The National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance of Vaccine Preventable Diseases (NCIRS) is the leading research organisation in Australia that provides objective expert advice on all aspects of vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs), vaccines, and other issues related to immunisation, to inform policy and planning for immunisation services in Australia and to support the control of VPDs across the whole life-course. NCIRS also has a growing Global Health program that works to support countries, particularly those in the Asia-Pacific region, on their immunisation system strengthening efforts. This work is funded through agreements with the Australian and New South Wales governments, including the Australian Centre for Disease Control, as well as other funding agencies.
The Senior Research Officer, Epidemiology and Evaluation supports the delivery of epidemiological surveillance, analysis and reporting activities within the Epidemiology and Evaluation Unit, with a particular focus on vaccine safety surveillance and clinical surveillance through the Paediatric Active Enhanced Disease Surveillance (PAEDS) network.
The role undertakes routine epidemiological analysis, data management, monitoring and reporting of surveillance data to support timely identification of trends, emerging issues and public health priorities. The position contributes to the preparation of surveillance reports, publications, presentations and other outputs that inform immunisation policy, clinical practice and public health decision-making.
Working collaboratively with epidemiologists, researchers, clinicians and external stakeholders, the Senior Research Officer supports the implementation and continuous improvement of surveillance systems, data quality processes and analytical methods. The role also contributes to epidemiological research, evaluation and other projects across the Epidemiology and Evaluation Unit as required, providing analytical expertise to support NCIRS' broader evidence generation and public health objectives.
