About the College

Music Industry College is a senior secondary school in Fortitude Valley offering Year 11 and 12 students the opportunity to study for their Queensland Certificate of Education in a tertiary‑style environment. Our focus is to empower young people to succeed in the music industry and in life.

MIC has 90 students enrolled per year allowing class sizes to be smaller. Many students arrive having found that a conventional school setting did not suit them, and they leave with a successful outcome for QCE, an ATAR if needed, and a much clearer sense of where they are heading. Our teachers are experienced, qualified and enthusiastic with most of them actively involved in the music industry. The College works closely with industry professionals across Brisbane.

The Business Manager (Finance) will work in a dual role with the Business Manager (Administration) to ensure the business and operational side of the College runs smoothly. These roles would support the Principal, report regularly to the Board, and manage our administrative staff of 3. They are broad roles in a small organisation with this role covering daily financial management, reporting, financial compliance & tax reporting, insurance, payroll, IT & asset management.

Your responsibilities would include

- Financial compliance — completion of all financial accountability reporting for Commonwealth, State and Charities with thorough record keeping for auditing.

- People and payroll — payroll, award interpretation, and work with the Business Manger (Administration) with recruitment and induction of administrative staff
- Facilities, systems and commercial activity — IT suppliers & commercial facility hire
- Our events and performances are currently coordinated by the outgoing Business Manager assisting relevant teaching staff and principal through budgets, contracts, insurance, licensing, risk assessments, venue bookings and liaising with external providers as required. This will be the responsibility of the Business Manager (Administration) with input from this role on budgetary matters.

About you

Essential

- Experience managing finance in a small organisation, including budgets, statutory reporting and annual audit

- Payroll and employment administration, including interpreting an award

- Sound judgement about risk, and a willingness to raise things early
- The ability to co‑manage and develop a small administration team
- Robust communication and stakeholder management skills
- A valid Queensland Working with Children Check (Blue Card), or eligibility to obtain one

Desirable

- Experience in a school, particularly a non‑government or independent school
- Familiarity with NSSAB accreditation and non‑government school funding frameworks
- A qualification in finance, accounting or school business management, CPA or CA membership, or equivalent experience
- A background in music, the arts, venues, events or the not‑for‑profit sector

If you have not worked in a school before we would still like to hear from you. Accreditation, student protection and school funding can be learned, and we will support you to learn them.

What we offer

- 3 day rate $65,398 - $79,902 (FTE $108,997 – FTE$133,171) plus superannuation (currently 12%), reviewed annually with CPI 1st September
- 5 weeks annual leave including 17½% loading
- A proper handover, with outgoing Business Manager
- A small, supportive team and a school that is a genuinely enjoyable place to work
- Professional development, and access to Independent Schools Queensland networks
- Office hours are 9:00am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday (Campus hours are 10:00am to 4:00pm). Ordinary hours for this role are 22.8 per week. This role may have some flexibility when required in consultation with the Principal
- Some evening and weekend attendance is required for College events, approximately 6 occasions each year. (A detailed list is available on request) This will be on a pro‑rata basis for your workload
