Head Chef – Restaurant 99 (Comfort Inn Whyalla, SA)

Annual Base Salary: $75,000–$85,000

Restaurant 99 at Comfort Inn Whyalla is seeking an experienced and passionate Head Chef to lead it’s kitchen operations and deliver exceptional dining experiences to the guests. This is a key leadership role suited to a culinary professional with strong technical skills, creativity, and the ability to manage a busy kitchen environment.

About the Role

The Head Chef will oversee all aspects of kitchen management, ensuring high standards of food quality, safety, and service. You will guide a small team, contribute to menu development, and maintain efficient kitchen operations in line with industry best practice.

Key Responsibilities

• Designing seasonal menus and planning daily offerings that align with the restaurant’s style and customer expectations
• Managing stock levels, sourcing ingredients, and forecasting food and labour requirements
• Supervising the preparation, cooking, and presentation of dishes to maintain consistent quality
• Collaborating with management, dietary professionals, and front of house staff to resolve food service matters
• Providing hands on training, demonstrating cooking methods, and supporting the skill development of kitchen staff
• Ensuring strict adherence to food safety standards and hygiene regulations across all kitchen activities
• Overseeing safe food storage practices, including freezing and preservation processes




• Participating in staff selection and contributing to a positive, productive kitchen culture

Skills & Experience Required

• Minimum 7 years of industry experience in commercial kitchens, including supervisory or senior chef responsibilities
• Diploma in Commercial Cookery or equivalent qualification; extensive relevant experience may be considered in lieu of formal qualifications
• Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills
• Proven ability to manage kitchen operations, maintain quality standards, and work effectively under pressure
• Sound understanding of food safety legislation and workplace health and safety requirements
